NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) is seeking a Coordinator, Standards and Technical Services.

The Coordinator, Standards and Technical Services provides support to the Vice President, Standards and Technical Services and the NEMA Technical Field Representatives. Among the major responsibilities of the position are administrative support for the Codes and Standards Committee and the International and Regional Standardization Committee. The position reports to the Vice President, Standards and Technical Services and is located in Arlington (Rosslyn), Virginia.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensure the effective and efficient operations of NEMA’s Codes and Standards (C&S) Committee and International and Regional Standardization Committee (IRSC)
  • Distribute materials, collect feedback, and organize staff/member inputs on technical issues, including those to be addressed at C&S/IRSC meetings
  • Collect, prepare, and distribute interim actions to the C&S/IRSC officers, compile results, and inform submitter of authorized action
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas and minutes for C&S/IRSC
  • Track and report on C&S/IRSC member participation on subcommittees, task forces, etc.
  • Issue calls for nominations to serve as NEMA representatives; submit for C&S/IRSC approval
  • Follow up actions of C&S/IRSC by informing members, staff and outside organizations of Committee actions and decisions
  • Maintain database of NEMA representatives on outside technical committees
  • Make arrangements for meetings of C&S/IRSC and other committees

2. Promote effective communications and coordination among members, staff, and others

  • Maintain intranet workspace for posting agendas, minutes, rosters, nominations for committees
  • Maintain a database of NEMA Sections and the non-NEMA standards (e.g., UL) in which they have an interest
  • Maintain listservs for distribution of technical information, including outside organizations’ technical bulletins and announcements, to members
  • Maintain and post relevant technical documents to the NEMA website
  • Respond to technical feedback phone/email inquiries directly or delegate to staff
  • Contribute to VP’s effectiveness by providing input on issues as requested and by taking on tasks delegated by the VP

3. Support the Vice President, Standards and Technical Services

  • Process ANSI compliance and administrative documents, including dues invoice
  • Process NEMA submittal of technical inputs to outside organizations, such as the National Fire Protection Association, the International Code Council, the National Electrical Contractors Association, UL Standards and Engagement
  • Provide support for publication of NEMA technical documents, including website assistance
  • Coordinate travel arrangements and schedule meetings for VP as requested

4. Provide support to NEMA’s Technical Field Representatives Program

  • Maintain database for tracking code inputs aligned with the Standards Publication Plan
  • Process TFR applications for positions in outside organizations and maintain record of TFR appointments
  • Maintain the Code Alerts and Disaster Response listservs and prepare and distribute alerts to subscribers
  • Maintain the Technical Field Representative (TFR) web page and intranet workspace
  • Maintain database and listserv for TFR intelligence reports, Section reports, publication articles, and presentation slide decks
  • Track TFR expenses versus budget and inform Managing Director of potential issues
  • Post TFR travel plans to the NEMA website and NEMALink event database
  • Process TFR expense reports, Visa statements, check requests, etc.


Experience and Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; college degree a plus
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Minimum five years of experience in administrative or similar role
  • Demonstrated commitment to the NEMA core values of respect, integrity, leadership, and teamwork
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize and organize day-to-day work tasks
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others both verbally and in writing
  • Positive interpersonal skills with an emphasis on collaboration and customer service
  • Knowledge of standardization a plus
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, work sharing/document management platforms (such as Sharepoint)
