Heavy Equipment Trainer

Location: Roswell, GA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Travel: Daily to multiple job sites throughout the metro area
Compensation: Based on experience and certifications


Position Overview:
The Heavy Equipment Trainer plays a key role in developing and maintaining the skill, safety, and performance of Cyclone’s equipment operators. This position focuses on training, coaching, and continuous improvement, ensuring every operator — from new hire to veteran — has the knowledge, skill, and mindset to perform at the highest level. The ideal candidate is a seasoned operator and respected mentor who takes pride in teaching others, leading by example, and promoting Cyclone’s safety-first, quality-driven culture.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and manage structured training programs for heavy equipment operators across multiple job sites.
  • Conduct classroom and hands-on field training for equipment such as dozers, excavators, graders, loaders, scrapers, haul trucks, and support equipment.
  • Evaluate operator proficiency using standardized performance checklists and provide constructive feedback.
  • Develop individualized improvement plans and follow-up coaching for operators at all levels.
  • Lead safety training sessions and reinforce adherence to OSHA and Cyclone’s internal safety protocols.
  • Maintain operator certification records, training logs, and progress tracking within company systems.
  • Partner with field leadership to identify skill gaps and align training with operational goals.
  • Promote consistency in operating procedures, equipment care, and production techniques across all crews.
  • Support new hire onboarding through orientation, skill verification, and mentorship programs.
  • Continuously review and update training content to reflect the latest best practices, technologies, and equipment.

Requirements:

 Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment operating experience, preferably in site development or civil construction.
  • Demonstrated success in training, coaching, or mentoring operators or crews.
  • Deep understanding of grading, excavation, and GPS machine control systems (Trimble, Topcon, or similar).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — able to lead by example and earn respect in the field.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to documentation.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
