About this position

The main function: Support clinicians in the provision of psychotherapeutic services to clients and families in Stepping Forward Counseling Center Summer (SFCC)CAMP 

The Summer Counselor plays a pivotal role in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children and teenagers during the summer camp season. This position is responsible for guiding campers through daily activities, fostering personal growth, and encouraging teamwork and positive social interactions. The counselor will serve as a role model, ensuring campers adhere to camp rules while promoting inclusivity and respect among all participants. By facilitating recreational, educational, and creative programs, the counselor helps campers develop new skills and build lasting friendships. Ultimately, the Summer Counselor contributes to a memorable and enriching camp experience that supports the emotional and physical well-being of every camper.


Minimum Qualifications:

  •  The main requirement is that the counselor be enrolled in a college program/coursework that supports the teaching of education or therapy services for children with special needs, or that the counselor has provided ABA services. 
    • Must be at least 18 years old.
    • Previous experience working with children or in a camp setting.
    • Ability to pass a background check and comply with all safety regulations.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Physical ability to participate in and lead outdoor activities.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities 

  • A CAMP counselor remains under the supervision of a Master Level Clinician and/or Program Director while performing any duties or responsibilities at SFCC. 
  • · Attend to and follow all SFCC CAMP procedures and routines. 
  • · Assist in the direction and supervision of clients. 
  • · Follow directions given by clinical staff. 
  • · Serve as a role model to the clients by demonstrating appropriate behavior. 
  • · Demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills. 
  • · Attend all morning clinical meetings required meetings. 
  • · Prepare and file behavior sheets, progress notes, treatment plans, and other documentation as assigned. 
  • · Report at arrival and dismissal times to receive and dismiss clients. 
  • · Participate in ALL activities with clients and engage in evidence-based therapeutic activities. Including swimming and field trips. 
  •   Ability to lead specialized activities such as swimming, hiking, or arts.
  • · Report all questions and concerns to the assigned supervisor. 
  • · Learn to create and develop activities for clients under the supervision of the SFCC Program Director. 
  • · Remain with assigned counselor, group, and/or client at ALL times. Clients MUST be supervised by an adult at all times, regardless of age or destination. 
  • Supervise and engage with campers throughout the day to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • · Maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times. 
  • · Perform related duties as needed

  • Plan, organize, and lead a variety of activities including sports, arts and crafts, and team-building exercises.
  • Provide guidance and support to campers, addressing their individual needs and resolving conflicts as they arise.
  • Maintain clear communication with camp staff, parents, and campers to foster a cohesive, positive camp environment.

Salary Information

$20.0 - $30.0 Hourly Wage
