The Central Services department of the Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Buyer. Reporting to the Manger of Facility Construction and Central Services, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly starting as soon as possible for one year from the start of employment. 

 

The Stores Buyer is responsible for the maintenance of the routine operation of the Central Stores facility and performs the purchasing for departments in the Public Works Yard. The Buyer works closely with the Purchasing Agent of Central Stores to review inventory levels, prepare purchasing orders, assist in cycle counts and year-end inventory, ensures sale of stock are properly coded and authorized and assists in the daily operations of the Central Services Stores. The Buyer will also update records of goods received, assist in the shipping and receiving of goods and services, submit invoices for payment, assist the Garage team with vehicle parts orders and handle front counter customer service for the Public Works Yard. 

 

Qualified candidates possess a grade 12 diploma, a post-secondary diploma in a related field, with 2-5 years of previous experience in Purchasing, Warehouse or Retail Management, SCMP Certification or completion of Supply Chain Canada courses and Public Procurement experience are considered an asset. Qualified candidates have knowledge of shipping/receiving and inventory management best practices, the types, quantities, sources and prices of commodities and services, municipal purchasing policies and procedures and understand the functions and requirements of various municipal departments served.

This position works 76.5 hours bi-weekly at a rate of $31.98 per hour.   Employees in the Central Services department shall normally work a schedule consisting of 9 days of work in a day period.  Each day of work shall be 8.5 hours exclusive of a one-half (1/2) hour lunch period.

 

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid BC class 5 driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract and a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment
