About the role

Overview of Position

This is a unique opportunity to help shape and execute the strategy of a global leader in Legal AI and Governance AI and one of the most internationally scaled AI companies headquartered in Japan.

The role reports directly to the Chief Strategy Officer and works in close partnership with another Corporate Strategy team member who focuses primarily on organizational design and execution capability initiatives. Together, the team supports executive leadership in defining long-term direction and driving execution against group objectives.


What you'll do

The Director of Strategy will manage strategic priorities collaboratively across functions and will be expected to mentor a more junior strategy resource as the team expands.

This is a high-ownership, high-exposure, and highly hands-on role within a lean strategy team. The Director is expected to personally lead analysis, executive materials, and cross-functional coordination, working directly with leadership across the group.

Strategy Definition & Portfolio Direction
  • Develop and continuously refine group-level strategy, including market positioning, product portfolio, AI and agentic direction and content strategy.
  • Identify growth opportunities across geographies, verticals, and adjacent categories.
  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable roadmaps in alignment with executive leadership.
Corporate Development & M&A
  • Evaluate inorganic growth opportunities including acquisitions and partnerships aligned with group strategy.
  • Lead strategic assessment and business case development.
  • Coordinate and support due diligence, decision process and post-merger integration as applicable.
Enterprise Strategic Initiatives
  • Drive and project-manage key group-wide initiatives identified by management. 
  • Track progress against strategic priorities and provide updates to leadership and the Board.
  • Mentor and oversee a junior strategy resource supporting initiative tracking and analytical workstreams.


Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements

  • 6-10+ years of experience in strategy consulting, private equity, corporate strategy, investment banking, or equivalent analytical leadership roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a leading university
  • Strong presentation, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple evolving priorities in a fast-scaling global organization.
  • Full professional proficiency in English; business-level Japanese.

Preferred Requirements

  • MBA, or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in enterprise SaaS, AI, technology, or legal industries preferred.
  • Experience evaluating M&A or corporate development initiatives preferred.
  • International experience preferred.
  • Experience working with executive stakeholders preferred.
  • High level of AI literacy and strong interest in AI, legal technology, and SaaS.

Working Conditions

  • This is not a fully remote position. Hybrid work is required, and visa support is available.
  • Job type: full time.
  • Work hours: 
    • Full flex system without core hours.
    • It may be required to work overtime.
    • Break time: 1 hour.
  • Probation period: 3 months.
