Middle School Math Teacher
Reports to: Ms. Perrin Jones, Director of Middle School
Full-time | 10-month position | Exempt
Position Summary
St. George’s is seeking a Middle School Math Teacher to work with students in grades 5 through 8 for the 2026-2027 academic year. St. George’s has small class sizes and emphasizes differentiation to support our students’ strengths and challenges. We recognize that every child is a unique learner. This person will report directly to the Director of Middle School and work in close collaboration with other teachers on the math team. The successful candidate will have a strong math background and excellent communication skills. Certification in and experience working in a high school or college-level mathematics classroom is a desired qualification but not required.
Requirements:Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Help students master the concepts and skills outlined in St. George’s mathematics curriculum.
- Collaborate with the Math Department Chair and work closely with members of the math department; participate in department vision building, curriculum design, and math-related initiatives. Meet regularly with the Department Chair to develop unit and lesson plans.
- Develop engaging, student-centered lesson plans for children in 5th - 8th grades and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with complex learning profiles.
- Monitor student growth by providing a variety of ongoing assessments.
- Consult frequently with Resource Specialists and other teachers to support students’ educational needs and optimize student growth.
- Participate in professional development to stay abreast of best practices in math teaching.
- Communicate frequently with parents and guardians to build trust and establish a team approach.
- Foster student learning by including students in their educational plans, and lead students to use their own critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Guide classroom behavior through respect and a positive approach.
- Consult with outside professionals as needed to support students’ educational progress.
- Keep your gradebook up to date and complete report cards twice a year for students.
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences; effectively communicate students’ progress and needs with parents and teaching team.
- Manage time to meet deadlines and adhere to a daily schedule and structure classes to maximize opportunities for student learning.
- Mentor students in a small-group advisory program.
- Help chaperone field trip experiences for students, including an overnight field trip.
- Be an active member in the life of the St. George’s community.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in education or mathematics.
- At least two years of experience teaching mathematics in a classroom setting.
- Knowledge of Singapore Math methodology.
- Philosophy that focuses on hands-on, student-centered learning.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace applications including but not limited to Gmail, Calendar, Google Classroom and Drive (Docs, Sheets and Slides).
- Ability to use an online student information system, various educational platforms and safety/communication applications on a Chromebook, iPad and/or a smartphone.
- Familiarity with using copiers, printers, document cameras and presentation screens.
- Ability to work well in a team and collaborate.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills which prove effective in communicating with parents and establishing a team approach with the child’s family.
- Excellent knowledge of child development, latest education theories and practices and current trends in education and professional development.
- A desire to respond to and initiate the solving of problems through clear and open conversation.
- A growth mindset; openness to feedback and an ability to take risks.
- A strong interest in pursuing professional development opportunities; a dedication to lifelong learning.
- A sense of integrity and ethics and an ability to carry out responsibilities in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands:
- Must be physically able to operate computers and office equipment.
- Occasional bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling and twisting; constant walking, speaking and listening; close visual attention to the computer.
- Occasional lifting up to 50lbs.
