Roles and Responsibilities

  • Analyze data and draft journal entries as needed to maintain GAAP-compliant books and records
  • Generate financial reports including balance sheets, income statements and cash flows
  • Exceptional attention to detail and diligent record keeping leading to a successful audit
  • Reconcile bank accounts and prepare AP transactions throughout the month
  • Work with multiple operational departments to ensure timely processing of accounting information from operational systems to the corporate accounting systems
  • Review and interpret customer contracts to ensure proper setup of charges
  • Review and reconcile charges, credits, and refunds
  • Track the backlog of customer contracts and work collaboratively with multiple departments to ensure the proper billing start dates take place in a timely manner
  • Comprehensive understanding of general ledger accounts and matching revenue with related expenses
  • Review, code, and enter vendor invoices into the accounting system, ensuring accuracy and appropriate approvals
  • Post and reconcile AR receipts in the accounting system, maintaining up-to-date customer balances
  • Prepare, generate, and distribute monthly and quarterly customer invoices in accordance with contract terms
  • Proactively follow up on outstanding invoices and execute collection efforts to reduce aging receivables

Preferred Experience

  • Minimum 3-4 years working in an accounting and/or finance role, with a preference for individuals with at least two years’ experience working with a public accounting firm
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel (e.g., minimum expectation is a strong familiarity with basic formulas such as VLOOKUP and SUMIF; preference for more advanced familiarity such as proficiency with PivotTables, INDEX/MATCH formulas, etc.)

Required Qualification & Education

  • BA/BS in a financial discipline (Accounting, Finance)
  • While the four-year degree minimum is a required statute, non-financial specific four-year degrees (e.g., business administration) are acceptable if the required experience has been attained, most notably the public accounting experience
  • Proficient in English (verbal and written)

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Continued developing knowledge of GAAP – especially in basic concepts specific to the proper accounting treatment for revenues and expenses
  • Strong interpersonal skills – the role is highly interactive with internal and external parties
  • The individual must be comfortable being treated as a professional – the individual must be reliable, highly communicative, and forward-thinking
  • Effective time management skills and ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities with shifting time frames

Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • CA certification (preferred, not required)
  • CPA certification (preferred, not required)
  • Experience working for a U.S.-based company
  • Experience in 1099 preparation
  • Intacct software experience
  • Proactive attitude towards process improvement
