As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), you will have the unique opportunity to positively impact our residents every day. You will partner with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare staff, and under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), positively represent the facility, providing routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall patient plan of care.
This position is responsible for on-going patient data collection and documentation and providing a variety of unit support functions which contribute to the overall efficient operation of the department. This position is for the 2pm to 10pm shift only.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Models a service attitude towards others, takes ownership in solving problems and takes the initiative to make things better, is friendly and courteous to residents and co-workers
- Ensure resident, visitor, and co-worker safety by remaining aware of and reporting any new or existing safety hazards
- Maintain good attendance record
- Provides care according to the residents service plan
- Respond to resident unscheduled care requests and document care provided
- Makes beds, straightens rooms and keeps resident care areas in an organized and clean manner, ensuring the entire floor is kept orderly
- Respects residents right by: (knocks on doors before entering room, addresses resident by name, allows resident to make own decisions when appropriate, promotes independence)
- Completes residents weights for each resident as required
- Accurately documents care given to residents including the documentation of reportable resident problems in the Point of Care system (i.e. ADLs, etc.)
- Report and document changes in resident condition to the supervising nurse immediately (i.e. changes in skin conditions, urinary changes, etc.) Reports problems with completion of assignments
- Handles confidential information appropriately
- Demonstrates flexibility with changing work demands
- Reports to nurse: equipment and supply needs, repair/maintenance needs, safety hazards and unusual occurrences or observations
- Attends and participation in appropriate in-service and staff meetings to improve knowledge and skills and to maintain competency and certification
- Maintains attendance as outlined in policy
- Wears prescribed uniform, follows prescribed dress code, wears name tag appropriately and maintains a professional image to the public and residents
- Assists the nurse department and other department when required on other duties and tasks when asked
- Provides appropriate interventions for residents behavior per care plan, utilizes distractions and validation techniques as appropriate and encourages resident independence
- Announce and encourage residents to attend activities of choice
- Assists Life Enrichment activities and if necessary leads the activity
- Assumes other duties as assigned by Department Head or Manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduation or GED preferred
- Possession of a valid Texas Certified Nursing Assistant certification
- Six months experience in providing personal care in a long-term care facility preferred

- Genuine caring for and interest in the care of seniors, including those with cognitive deficits.
- Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English

- Ability to acquire new knowledge to perform additional or more difficult tasks
- Ability to maintain a positive, stable disposition in performing, working in association with staff and residents
- Ability to maintain a high level of performance in an environment of frequent demands and changes
- Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team, to share information freely, to use and seek supervision and consultation verbally and in writing, and to be able to follow both verbal and written instructions
- Ability to comply with organizational and departmental safety policies and procedures
- Ability to perform work tasks within the Physical Demand Requirements as outlined below

WORK CLIMATE:
