Position Summary

The Site Manager (CDL Required – Hands-On Operations) is responsible for leading daily site operations while actively supporting field execution. This role requires a working manager who can cover routes, operate front load, roll-off, and residential equipment, and directly train and mentor CDL drivers. The Site Manager ensures safety, compliance, productivity, and service reliability through visible leadership in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day site operations with a hands-on management approach, including covering routes and operating equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a valid CDL and regularly operate front load, roll-off, and residential collection vehicles to support staffing shortages, training, and service recovery.
  • Train new and existing drivers on safe vehicle operation, route execution, customer service expectations, and company procedures.
  • Conduct ride-alongs, route observations, and field coaching to reinforce safety, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Manage, schedule, and support supervisors and CDL drivers across all service lines.
  • Ensure full compliance with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and company safety standards.
  • Monitor daily productivity, route performance, labor hours, and service completion.
  • Respond directly to service issues, missed pickups, and customer escalations.
  • Participate in driver hiring, onboarding, and ongoing performance management.
  • Lead accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, including DOT-reportable events, with corrective action follow-up.
  • Coordinate closely with maintenance to address vehicle defects, pre/post-trip issues, and fleet reliability.
  • Maintain accurate DOT, safety, training, and personnel documentation.
  • Support budgeting, expense control, and operational planning while maintaining service continuity.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through daily interactions, tailgate meetings, and jobsite presence.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Direct supervision of approximately 1–10 employees, including CDL drivers and operational staff.


Requirements:

 Required Skills & Abilities

  • Proven ability to lead from the field and earn credibility with drivers and supervisors.
  • Strong communication and coaching skills with the ability to train drivers effectively.
  • Hands-on knowledge of front load, roll-off, and residential collection operations.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to prioritize routes, staffing, equipment, and service recovery.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office applications; industry systems preferred.
  • Commitment to safety, accountability, and operational excellence.

Experience & Knowledge Requirements

  • Valid Class B CDL required (Class A preferred) with acceptable driving record.
  • Demonstrated experience covering routes and training CDL drivers in waste or transportation operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations.
  • Ability to understand P&L statements and operational cost drivers.
  • Waste, environmental services, or transportation industry experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience, preferably in a hands-on operational role.

Physical & Working Requirements

  • Ability to operate commercial vehicles and equipment for extended periods.
  • Frequent climbing in and out of trucks and working around heavy equipment.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Exposure to dust, odors, gases, and other airborne materials.
  • Frequent bending, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and balancing.

Additional Requirements

  • Must maintain a valid CDL and DOT Medical Card.
  • No more than three moving violations within the past two years.
  • No DUI/OVI within the past five years, or two within the past ten years.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening, physical, and background check.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
