Job Title: Youth Basketball Referee

Reports To: Youth Sports Coordinator
Employment Type: Part-time / Seasonal


Job Summary:

The Youth Basketball Referee is responsible for officiating youth basketball games in a fair, consistent, and positive manner. This role ensures that all participants—players, coaches, and spectators—experience a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment in alignment with the YMCA's mission and core values.\


Key Responsibilities:

  • Officiate youth basketball games for ages typically ranging from 7 to 14 years old.
  • Enforce rules and regulations of the game consistently and fairly.
  • Promote good sportsmanship, safety, and fun.
  • Communicate clearly and calmly with players, coaches, and spectators.
  • Monitor equipment and the playing area to ensure a safe environment.
  • Report any incidents, injuries, or rule infractions to the Sports Director.
  • Arrive on time and be prepared for each game.
  • Assist in setup and breakdown of gym/field when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age: 16 years old
  • Basic knowledge of basketball rules and gameplay required.
  • Previous playing, coaching, or refereeing experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick, fair decisions.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain).
