ASSISTANT SEASONAL EDUCATOR

POSITIONOVERVIEW:
The Mercer County Park Commission is seeking enthusiastic and dependable Assistant Seasonal Educators to support its Summer Nature Programs, including week-long day camps and educational field trips. These programs promote environmental awareness and appreciation through hands-on, outdoor learning experiences such as hiking, science activities, nature crafts, and lake exploration.
Under the direction of Naturalist Staff, the Assistant Seasonal Educator assists with program preparation, activity facilitation, and supervision of children ages 7–14. This seasonal role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental education within a non-formal learning setting. Training is provided.
SCHEDULE & DURATION:
- Season: June through August
- Hours: 21–35 hours per week
- Work Schedule: Monday through Friday
- Work Environment: Approximately 80% outdoors
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists children with hands-on science experiments, crafts,and group learning activities.
- Prepares lesson materials and supports set-up and clean-upof daily program activities.
- Supervises and engages children during camp sessions, hikes,and outdoor programs.
- Greets and interacts with the public at county parks, naturecenters, and community events.
- Assists Naturalist Staff with animal care, office support,and other program-related tasks as needed.
- Supports a safe, inclusive, and positive learningenvironment for all participants.
- Represents the Mercer County Park Commission in aprofessional and courteous manner.
- Performs related duties as assigned to support environmentaleducation programming.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age by the June start date.
- Ability to report to various Mercer County park locations asscheduled.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods on uneventerrain and in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and managemultiple changing priorities.
- Spanish-speaking candidates are strongly encouraged toapply.

- Interest in environmental education, nature-based learning,or youth programming.
- Ability to effectively engage and communicate with childrenages 7–14.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, professionalattitude.
- Ability to follow direction, work collaboratively withstaff, and take initiative when needed.
- Ability to safely supervise children in outdoor and groupsettings.
- Physical ability to hike, stand, and participate in outdooractivities throughout the workday.
