About this position

The Berlin Steel Construction Company is a full-service specialty contractor, primarily with structural steel and miscellaneous metals. We design, fabricate, and erect structures in the Northeast and in other parts of the country. We have 2 fabrication facilities, 4 erection operations facilities, and 6 office locations that provide engineering and management of projects. We are a 100% employee-owned company (ESOP) with a desire for growth. We service the private commercial, public, institutional, and industrial markets.



We are seeking a motivated Entry-Level Civil Engineer to join our engineering team in-person in our Kensington, CT office. You will support the design of structural steel connections and miscellaneous metals. This role offers hands-on exposure to real-world projects and mentorship under experienced engineers, with opportunities to grow technical expertise in steel, concrete, and specialty structures.


Essential Functions

  • Design structural steel connections in compliance with AISC and OSHA standards
  • Design miscellaneous metal components, including stairs, railings, platforms, and specialty structures utilizing steel, concrete, aluminum, glass, wood, and masonry
  • Provide structural design support related to fabrication and erection needs
  • Develop engineering sketches and design details for the detailing department
  • Collaborate with detailers to resolve design conflicts and constructability issues
  • Perform detailing tasks using company software as needed
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams to ensure project safety, accuracy, and timely issue resolution
  • Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned to meet departmental and operational needs


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with coursework in structural analysis of steel and concrete
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
  • Working knowledge of IBC, AISC, ASCE, ACI, and AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with STAAD.Pro or similar structural analysis software preferred, but not required
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment
