Description:
  • Collects, interprets, records and communicates pertinent patient data relevant to providing and promoting a safe surgical patient outcome.
  • Prepares the operating room with equipment and supplies specific to each surgical procedure.
  • Provides direct patient care by assuring safety while positioning the patient, medication management and sterile technique.
  • Follows established policies and procedures in conjunction with JCAHO and MN State regulations.
  • Communicates plan of care to other staff members of the surgical center as needed.
  • Exhibits competency in performing all functions of assigned area or duties. 
  • Responsible for other functions as assigned by the Clinical Director and/or the Executive Director. 
  • Maintains a collegial relationship with physicians & staff      members to ensure quality patient care. 
  • Responsible for efficient and effective patient care and quality      improvement.
Requirements:

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certificates/Eligibility: 

Current State R.N. license

BCLS required, ACLS a plus.

1-2 years’ experience as an operating room nurse preferred.


  

Skills/Knowledge/Ability: Knowledge in gynecological surgical procedures a plus. Potential to cross-train to pre/post departments. 

Interpersonal: Maintains active professional relationships with physicians and patients by assessing needs and levels of satisfaction with surgery center services. Effective communication skills: oral and written. Above average organizational skills. Demonstrates a positive, friendly, and courteous manner. Serves as a role model to other staff nurses and technicians. Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.


Critical Thinking: Above average ability to plan and implement patient care. Ability to make sound nursing judgement based on nursing theory. Awareness of peri-operative role of nurse in the surgery center. Medical records documentation is legible, concise and accurate. Assumes responsibility for competency and takes initiative for professional development and continuing education.


Knowledge: Working knowledge and experience in hospital operating room or ambulatory surgery center nursing care. Ability to adhere to work schedule and manage time appropriately.  Ability to utilize resources in a timely, organized and cost effective manner. Monitors stock levels, outdated supplies and equipment needs and reports appropriately.
