About this position

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Provide coverage for Jake's Place during business and non-business hours interacting directly with clients of Jake's Place. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have high school diploma or equivalent GED.
  2. Demonstrates leadership and authority. 
  3. Demonstrates stability, self-control, and ability to work under indirect supervision. 
  4. Knowledge of alcoholism and drug abuse preferred. 
  5. A period of one year sobriety will be required for recovering individuals. 
  6. ability to work with people from various socio/ethnic/cultural backgrounds. Cultural knowledge of Native Alaskans/American Indians preferred.
  7. Must be able to complete requirements to receive a food handler certificate within two months of hire. 
  8. Valid Alaska Drivers License. 
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality is required for this position.
  10. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span (e.g., pediatric/adult/geriatric), possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the assigned units policies and procedures and/or participate in training to develop these skills. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. 1. Assist in the general care and well being of clients. 
  2. Monitor and enforce residential house rules as listed in client handbook. 
  3. Maintain building security. 
  4. Maintain log of events of shift.
  5. Perform receptionist tasks and other general office duties, including screening calls. 
  6. Attend to hazardous situations (wet floors, broken windows etc.). 
  7. Participate in emergency drills. 
  8. Provide custodial services as assigned during shift. Keep work area clean and organized. 
  9. Consult with counseling staff as to special problems among residents and inform Residence Manager as to events of the shift. 
  10. Provide supervision of client's self-administration of prescription or over-the-counter drugs. 
  11. Transport clients in corporate vehicle. 13. When assigned, supervise didactic and/or skill building groups. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Work is performed in a facility with the usual amounts of light. Must be able to see, hear, speak, walk, sit, bend, kneel, and lift up to 40 pounds with or without accommodation. Will be the only staff member on duty during this shift. 

RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS: Will not engage in an intimate relationship with a client of Jake's Place as long as he/she is a client of the program. Intimate relationship's defined as boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, including sexual contact. Regular contact with people who speak English as a second language. Must be tolerant of a wide variety of people and their sometimes unpredictable behavior.


Shifts may vary, there are 12am-8am shift(s) that need to be worked and covered.
