Position Summary

The Quality Engineer is primarily responsible for promoting operational excellence in the RIX Value Stream including both internal and external processes. This position exercises proactive influence over day-to-day operations, seeking to prevent value stream failures and to drive effective and efficient root cause corrective action when failures do occur. Since RIX purchases the majority of the material consumed in the assembly of its systems, a significant contribution will be made in the development of its suppliers’ processes to promote delivered quality and on time delivery. The Quality Engineer is responsible for advancing and deploying the RIX Quality Management System, and for promoting the continuous improvement of RIX operations in general.


Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Quality  in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the QMS and associated key performance indicators.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to build quality awareness and to promote the RIX continuous improvement culture.
  • Review Contracts to determine quality, test and workmanship requirements for a program.
  • Interface with Engineering and Manufacturing functions to ensure transition of designs to production in accordance with customer requirements, at minimum risk.
  • Review drawings, test procedures and work instruction packages for completeness, accuracy and adherence to contractual requirements.
  • Contribute to internal audits as a member of the internal audit team.
  • Design appropriate Quality Assurance Plans for products.
  • Assign flow down requirements for suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Contribute to supplier qualifications and source selections.
  • Conduct supply chain process development work to maximize delivered quality and on time delivery. This may require up to 50% travel within the United States.
  • Promote design improvements when necessary.
  • Promote manufacturing and test process improvements including the development/improvement of equipment, tools and fixtures.
  • Lead root cause failure analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Conduct First Article Analysis and source inspections.
  • Disposition Nonconforming material.
  • Sell off product to customer and DCMA.
  • Generate, monitor and analyze metrics.
  • Support the Quality Inspectors to ensure product and processes comply with customer requirements/expectations.
  • Interface with Customer and provide program quality status.
  • All Other Duties as Assigned



Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Secondary Education to A.A. Level in a Quality Control related area or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Familiarity with the interpretation and application of the ASME Y14 series of drawing standards. Ability to read, interpret, and produce drawings, codes, and specifications for design work, including GD&T.
  • Ability to select components and organize bills of materials.
  • Able to travel up to 50% of scheduled work time for supplier development.
  • Knowledge of machine design, material properties and selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of root cause investigation processes, process failure modes and effects analysis, and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of, and experience implementing Lean and Six Sigma principles.
  • Project management skills sufficient to manage simultaneous projects with varying schedule and resource requirements.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Solid understanding of algebra and geometry, ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, polynomial equations, and differential calculus.
  • Understanding of mechanisms and how the parts interrelate in an assembly.
  • Ability to communicate with others to exchange information both orally and in writing.
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or qualified U.S. Person in accordance with ALU 22CFR 120.15. May require the ability to obtain DOD security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or Equivalent
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
  • AWS Certified Weld Inspector, or equivalent.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This position is regularly exposed to the following conditions:

  • Manufacturing, warehouse and office environments
  • While working near moving equipment, mechanical parts and lift trucks; must have the ability to follow safe operating procedures.
  • May be exposed to loud noise, fumes and/or toxic chemicals.

Must have the following physical abilities:

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, reach, and lift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods at a desk or table as well as machine tools or printers.
  • This position may require up to 50% travel time.
