Overview

Responsible for patient care in the device clinic and general cardiology clinic. .



Responsibilities

Document in office device checks into Epic for provider to review.

Review/analyze/document remote device checks into Epic for provider to review.

Review remote device alerts for all 4 companies and determine if further action may be need by NP/provider. (Ex. New onset AF, increase ventricular rates with atrial arrhythmias, ICD shocks, increase impedance indicating lead concerns, EMI/noise, ERI time for device to be replaced, etc.)

Send transmissions from all 4 companies' website to Epic to perform in-office or remote check.

Create encounter for remote device checks to ensure proper billing.

Contact and alert patients on remote schedules whose transmissions were not received, advise them to manually send transmission.

Provide step by step instructions for patients regarding how to manually send remote transmission using their specific bedside monitor (6-8 different monitors for all 4 companies)

Follow up to ensure all checks are billing appropriately (Ex. Ensuring all EP nurses are providing the correct orders that correlate with device)

Work hand in hand with Toni Stoll and Chris Graham regarding all billing concerns for device checks

Review messages from O.L., D.S., B.M. regarding adjustments to device or medication changes, notify patient and schedule adjustment appointments appropriately.

Provides education to device patients about their pacemaker/ICD/ILR

Provides education regarding remote monitoring and how to properly utilize it

Order remote monitors for device patients (we will follow in our clinic)

Liaison between device rep and hospice house/hospitalist who request ICD to be turned off.

Review disconnected monitor status and notify patient to ensure device is being monitored appropriately.

Check physician orders on charge ticket to make sure they are carried out (Ex. Labs ordered, tests scheduled, etc.)

Liaison between EP providers and general cardiologists (Ex. Initiating anticoagulant for new onset Afib, devices nearing ERI and scheduling for H&P, follow up to ensure routine device checks are scheduled appropriately s/p implant

Complete MRI Forms

Fax all in office/remote checks to primary cardiologist as Dr. Lawal, Marengo, and Shin at end of report suggest possible medication adjustments/re-evaluate echo, MPS, etc.)

Schedule/order VVOPT appointment for appropriate devices

Review test results with patient as instructed by physician.

Makes sure device checks are appropriately scheduled according to guidelines.

Abides by OSHA and HIPAA guideline

Work with Medical Records Department and scheduling department.

Maintains patient and practice confidentiality.

Maintains professional demeanor at all times with patients, caregiver, physicians and coworkers

Attend various meetings and professional development programs as requested/needed

Any and all other duties as assigned by physician and clinic manager.



Qualifications

Must be a graduate from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program with Certification or have a valid NC LPN License. Associate's degree preferred but not required. Experience assisting providers with patient care (vital signs, specimen collection, EKG, etc.) is required. Experience with the Epic EMR, office skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and insurance terminology is preferred. Excellent communication and computer skills are required. Self-starter, highly motivated candidate with friendly, outgoing personality, and excellent customer service skills required. Extensive knowledge of various health insurance plans preferred. A minimum of two years' experience within a Cardiology office is preferred.
