Writing Instructor

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Chief Academic Officer, works collaboratively to provide instruction in composition, literature, humanities, and secondary-related subject areas for Clatsop Community College.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Teach all levels of composition using various modalities, as part of the expected workload.
  • Teach in secondary areas of interest, preferably literature, technical report writing, creative writing, and humanities, using various modalities as assigned within the contracted workload.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate strategic planning and outcomes assessment for the college writing program.
  • Build relationships with high school writing instructors and facilitate dual enrollment needs as assigned.
  • Advise majors and non-majors following workload recommendations according to the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Serve on college shared governance committees as needed.
  • Contribute to the community through partnerships, mentoring, and/or volunteer work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in writing or composition, or a master’s degree in English or another discipline with thirty (30) quarter graduate credits in Rhetoric or English/Composition.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching composition (2 years minimum experience) and at least one other related subject (technical report writing, creative writing, literature, and humanities).
  • Documented experience with developing and implementing course learning outcomes, assessment, and strategic planning.
  • Instructional experience using various modalities, including asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid, hyflex, and other modalities.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating with a diverse community college student population.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a professional and collegial manner with a group, with a supervisor, and independently.
  • Understand and follow FERPA and TITLE IX laws and policies regarding confidentiality and appropriate teacher/student interactions with mutual respect and fairness.

 

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in English and Rhetoric or English/Composition.
  • Demonstrated excellence for teaching composition at the college level (2 years minimum) and at least one other related subject (technical report writing, literature, and humanities).
  • Experience teaching with Canvas.
  • Interest and experience in creating new courses and updating previously approved courses to meet state and national standards and to meet the needs of students, the college, and the community.

Salary Information

$68104.0 - $72954.0 Annual Salary
