Position Overview

The Director, Special Projects is a senior individual contributor within the Office of the President, reporting directly to the President & CEO. This role serves as a strategic execution partner—ensuring that the organization’s highest-priority initiatives, communications, and leadership commitments move forward with clarity, discipline, and follow-through.

Operating at the intersection of strategy, operations, and executive communication, the Director translates leadership direction into coordinated action across the organization, prepares executive- and board-level materials, and maintains continuity of progress during periods of executive travel or external engagement. The role is ideal for a globally experienced professional who thrives in complex, mission-driven environments and can operate confidently at both strategic and execution levels.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Project Leadership

  • Lead execution of high-priority, cross-functional initiatives originating from the Office of the President
     
  • Translate executive priorities into clear plans, timelines, and deliverables with accountability
     
  • Coordinate inputs across departments to drive alignment and momentum
     
  • Proactively identify risks, delays, or misalignment and elevate them for action

Executive, Board & Donor Communications

  • Prepare polished executive-, board-, and donor-ready materials, including briefs and presentations
     
  • Synthesize complex medical, operational, and programmatic information into clear narratives
     
  • Support preparation and coordination of board packets and leadership materials
     
  • Draft correspondence and communications on behalf of the President when delegated

Strategic Planning & Organizational Performance

  • Support tracking and reporting for CURE’s multi-year strategic plan and annual priorities
     
  • Monitor progress against key initiatives, milestones, and organizational goals
     
  • Prepare concise executive and board updates on progress and priorities
     
  • Coordinate cross-departmental inputs to ensure accuracy and alignment

Office of the President Continuity

  • Maintain continuity of work during executive travel and external engagements
     
  • Track commitments, follow-ups, and open decisions to ensure nothing stalls
     
  • Partner closely with the Executive Assistant to support seamless information flow
     
  • Represent the Office of the President with professionalism, discretion, and mission alignment

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in Global Health, Public Health (MPH), International Development, Health Policy, Health Administration, or a closely related field
     
  • 8–10+ years of experience in global health, international development, or complex mission-driven organizations
     
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-stakeholder initiatives with responsibility for execution
     
  • Proven ability to support senior leadership and prepare executive- or board-level materials
     
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
     
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive information
     
  • Alignment with CURE’s Christian mission and values
     

Preferred

  • Experience supporting healthcare delivery organizations or hospital systems
     
  • Familiarity with global health environments involving ministries of health, donors, NGOs, or faith-based partners
     
  • Experience with strategic planning, organizational performance tracking, or enterprise-level initiatives
     
  • Prior exposure to board governance or major donor engagement

Work Environment & Travel

  • Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan (in office)
     
  • Occasional domestic and international travel required
