LOCATION: New York, NY (Lower East Side)
SALARY: $35,000
SCHEDULE: Monday–Friday, 8am – 5pm and some weekends as needed
START DATE: February 2026
JOB SUMMARY: Maintenance of areas used by the BEST Program (i.e. offices, activity rooms, reception, rest rooms, hallways, kitchen and kitchen equipment, pantry, backyard/ garden and garbage disposal areas).
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED requiredPrevious custodial and/or maintenance experienceAbility to lift and move objects up to 25lbsStrong communication skills with staff and program participantsBilingual in Spanish and/or Chinese preferred, but not requiredAbility to work independently and proactively address maintenance needsReliable attendance and punctuality, with flexibility to meet program scheduling needsCertificate of Fitness for Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems (Sā95)ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform general maintenance and daily upkeep of the entire program siteMaintain the kitchen, activity rooms, office equipment, and backyard; shovel snow during winter monthsCollect trash dailySweep and mop floors dailySweep, buff, strip, and wax program floors quarterlyTransport materials to designated recycling areasReceive and inspect food and supply deliveries for the BEST Program as neededStore food and supply deliveries, ensuring no damaged or spoiled goodsMonitor and log refrigerator and freezer temperatures dailyMonitor and log fire alarm system status dailyMaintain and clean program equipmentServe as liaison with NYCHA regarding maintenance requests, repairs, and ticket trackingAssist with setup and breakdown for special eventsAssist with food pantry packaging and support Older Adult Services as neededAssist with food pantry delivery to homebound participants and conduct facility home visits if neededProvide maintenance support for weekend events as requiredRemain available during work hours and after hours for emergency situations (e.g., leaks, flooding, fire)Perform other duties as assigned by the Program DirectorHOW TO APPLY:
