Production Technician, (Pool Position) 

2026 Position Description

This is an on-call, non-exempt position; hours to be determined. This position is not eligible for benefits. This is a temporary appointment and contingent upon the availability of funds. 

Position Overview: Under the supervision of the Production Manager, the Production Technician pool is comprised of skilled and proficient stage technicians capable of working independently on standard assignments in their applicable production support specialty. These stage technicians shall be multi-skilled in various areas of theatre craft, allowing greater flexibility when coordinating both small and large-scale productions. The incumbent’s possession of the required qualifications and experience allows for a safe stage environment and for technically sound productions. 

Essential Functions: Duties include the application of various stagecraft skills and techniques in support of performances, events, and exhibitions. They may include but are not limited to: carpentry, rigging, hanging, focusing, audio setup, light direction, videography, loading and unloading, security, lead duties and stage management; the inspecting and maintenance of house equipment and the enforcement of University and LFAC policies and operating procedures.


Level I - Assist with basic stage setup and teardown under direct supervision. Operate simple stage equipment (e.g., microphones, lights) as directed. Perform routine maintenance on stage equipment. Help in moving equipment and setting up for performances. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines.

 Level II - Work independently on standard stage setup and teardown tasks. Operate a variety of stage equipment (e.g., soundboards, lighting consoles) with minimal supervision. Conduct more complex maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment. Coordinate with other departments for production needs. At times, supervise and mentor Level 1 technicians. Ensure compliance with safety standards during all tasks

Level III - Lead the technical setup and teardown for large-scale productions. Operate and troubleshoot advanced stage equipment and systems. Develop and implement technical plans for productions. Train and oversee Level 1 and Level 2 technicians. Coordinate technical aspects with production managers and directors. Ensure high standards of technical quality and safety. 

Level IV - Oversee all technical aspects of multiple productions simultaneously. Design and implement complex technical solutions for productions. Serve as a technical advisor to production managers and directors. 

Lead and manage the entire team of stage technicians. Develop and enforce technical standards and safety protocols. Stay updated with the latest advancements in stage technology and incorporate them into productions. 

Experience & Skill Requirements:

The incumbent must have professional experience working for a professional theatre, repertory or stock company and have engaged in an applicable production specialty. This experience can consist of professional training or applicable college coursework and practical experience. 


The incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or the continued employment of current UAS employees who apply for the position.
