Position Summary
The Resident Care Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of resident care services within the community. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, compassionate, and compliant care through leadership, assessment, care planning, staff education, quality improvement, and coordination with residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams. The Resident Care Director leads the care team with professionalism, respect, and a strong commitment to dignity and resident-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Care & Clinical Oversight
- Coordinate and complete assessments for new and existing residents
- Develop, implement, and review individualized resident care plans
- Monitor resident conditions and communicate significant changes to families, physicians, and appropriate care providers
- Coordinate health-related services and ensure continuity of care
- Administer medications (topical, oral, eye, and ear drops) when authorized by physician orders and permitted by law
- Ensure residents are treated with kindness, dignity, and respect at all times
Leadership & Staff Management
- Recruit, interview, and participate in the selection of resident care staff
- Supervise and evaluate care practices of resident care assistants
- Determine appropriate staffing levels to meet resident care needs
- Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to care staff
- Participate in on-call rotation and Manager-on-Duty responsibilities
Education & Training
- Develop and oversee staff orientation and ongoing training programs
- Conduct in-service education, staff meetings, and specialized training
- Maintain records of staff education, competencies, and evaluations
- Promote professional development and continuing education
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Monitor resident care services to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and peer review activities
- Evaluate care delivery and revise care plans at least every six months or as resident needs change
- Ensure fair, consistent, and non-discriminatory staff disciplinary practices
Program Development & Safety
- Develop and implement policies related to resident safety, incidents, and accidents
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of infectious waste and sharps
- Maintain accurate records required for regulatory oversight and program evaluation
- Participate in committees and interdisciplinary collaboration
Qualifications
- Successful completion of accredited registered nurse program with proof of license
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of aging, chronic conditions, and psychosocial needs of older adults
- CPR certification required
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations
