Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible for performing routine and specialized laboratory tests that assist physicians in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The MLT ensures accuracy, quality control, and timely reporting of laboratory results while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Collect, label, and prepare biological specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for testing

  • Perform laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and urinalysis

  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment

  • Analyze test results, identify abnormalities, and report findings accurately

  • Follow quality control procedures to ensure reliable and precise results

  • Maintain laboratory records, logs, and documentation in compliance with regulations

  • Adherent to laboratory safety protocols, infection control, and OSHA standards

  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment issues and test discrepancies

  • Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals

  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other applicable regulatory requirements

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field
  • Current Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification (ASCP or equivalent) preferred or required per state regulations
  • Valid state laboratory license, if applicable
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience preferred (GI or outpatient clinic experience a plus)
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and quality control procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
