 SCHEDULE

 Monday - Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Overtime as required.


 GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Performs difficult skilled intermediate technical work supervising the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems on medians and related roadway; homeowners irrigation systems, wells and pumps; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision. Supervision is exercised over a crew of semiskilled and skilled workers.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises and participates in the installation, repair, and maintenance of irrigation systems and grounds keeping activities.
  • Inspects and updates Baseline irrigation system controllers and Watertronics devices.
  • Maintains irrigation system pumps.
  • Monitors controllers and automatic system.
  • Implement schedules for daily work of crew using Upkeep workorders and daily inspections.
  • Troubleshoot system malfunctions; locates system leaks.
  • Monitors watering time and cycles on controllers.
  • Monitor daily the Baseline system for malfunctions in the irrigation system.
  • Troubleshoots Baseline Controllers to assist Irrigation Technicians daily.
  • Assist with budget preparation and monitoring
  • Trains personnel and evaluate employee work performance.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
  • Available for call back because of irrigation problems, i.e.: breaks, leaks, etc., or to supervise required staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Baseline Computerized Systems, Programming, Troubleshooting, or equivalent irrigation software.
  • Repairing Baseline Controllers, Installation of Baseline Controllers, Operation and programming controllers
  • Two wire systems
  • Troubleshooting controllers UHF radios for controllers
  • Operating, troubleshooting, Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) pumping stations
  • The occupational hazards and safety precautions of the irrigation tasks and related equipment operation
  • Effective supervisory principles and methods.

Skilled in:

  • The use of the equipment and tools of trade
  • Organization to effectively plan, assign, supervise and review the work of subordinate personnel.
  • Critical thinking – using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Interpersonal skills – communicate and collaborate effectively with team members, assigned departments, and third-party vendors.
  • Microsoft Office Suite products include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, to a moderate degree of proficiency.
  • Reading comprehension – including of technical materials to read and interpret landscape blueprints, as-builts, and plans.

Ability to:

  • Manage multiple activities simultaneously while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail and prioritize requests to resolve problems
  • Train Irrigation Technicians on the operation of wire tracer equipment, voltage tester, and checking low voltage.
  • Train technicians on the operation of the Baseline Controller.
  • Prepare plans and detailed reports.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departmental staff, contractors and the public.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit comprehensive reports and orally and in writing.
  • assist with budget preparation.
  • Exercise South Florida Water Management District Water Restriction Regulations.
  • Wear hard hat/helmet, safety glasses, goggles, respirator, safety shoes/boots, hearing protectors, welder's helmet, face shield, safety harness, safety vest, and gloves.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED/commensurate work experience equivalency.
  • Four (4) years of experience in irrigation system or general maintenance work.
  • State of Florida class “E” driver’s license.
  • Previous experience as a supervisor.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish.
  • Irrigation contractor’s license.

  • Constant ability to observe details accurately and identify variances.
  • Occasionally lift/Carry objects 50 pounds or less
  • Occasionally push/pull objects 50 pounds or less.
  • Constantly working in an area that is very uncomfortable due to extreme temperature, noise levels, or other environmental conditions.
  • Constantly working in an outdoor area where exposure to animals, reptiles and/or insects may occur.
  • Constantly working with equipment or performing procedures where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises or muscle pulls.
