The USS Midway Museum is seeking a ship/maritime electrical systems supervisor with a minimum of 10 years of experience in maritime and industrial electrical systems. In addition to requirements listed below, candidates should also be interested in working in a highly collaborative fun and customer focused environment, appreciate volunteer service, enjoy problem solving and be passionate about making an impact at work. Status: Full-Time

Schedule Requirement: Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm with flexibility to work weekends/evenings

Pay rate: $40.00 per hour plus annual discretionary bonus

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Ships Engineering Department Electrical Supervisor is responsible for the critical daily and long-term material readiness of the USS MIDWAY electrical systems support, repairs, preservation and modifications.

  • Coordinate, create, manage and maintain critical and required industrial safety and material programs and equipment associated with ship electrical system wiring, power supply, repairs and confined areas.
  • Maintain ship’s cathodic protections system, high voltage/high temperature/high value tool management.
  • Supervisor electrical technician personnel.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring of ships engineering staff in the safe operation of various ships systems and lighting requiring power.
  • Maintain electrically lift equipment, both small-scale man lifts to large scale forklifts that supports heavy lifting from a pier to aircraft elevators or handling material in an aircraft carrier hangar bay and flight deck.
  • Key point of contact as the senior electrical subject matter expert to ensure program compliance that encompass proper procedures with commercial electrical equipment, personnel protection, proper collection, storage and transportation of electrical parts and cables and removal in accordance with state, county and local regulations.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience: 

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required. College degree strongly desired.
  • Marine Journeyman, Navy Electrician’s Mate, Utility Plant Electrician.
  • 10+ years of experience in maritime and industrial electrical systems, procedural compliance and safety requirements in a high voltage electricity and handling of hazardous material and power supplies.
  • Successful track record of leading and managing personnel – minimum 5 years.

 

Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to lead, prioritize, provide daily management to subordinates and long-term planning/recommendations for senior leadership/management.
  • Knowledge in ship/maritime electrical systems that built into hull structures, compartments, engineering systems, structural design and equipment.
  • Technical knowledge and ability to read ships electrical drawings, one lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, diesel generators, fire/smoke control systems, analyze new construction loads that will be connected to existing original systems onboard USS MIDWAY and provide senior technical advice/recommendations for future installations with current technology and equipment.
  • Computer skills to include proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Can create clear and concise instructions as well as provide clear and detailed guidance to subordinates.
  • Accurate and detail oriented.
  • Ability to deal effectively with deadlines and time pressures.
  • Self-motivated and problem solve without supervision. Exercise outstanding initiative.
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work weekend, evening and holiday hours as needed.
  • Team player – ready and willing to help wherever needed or assigned

 

Working Conditions

Work Environment

  • Work is performed onboard a historic naval aircraft carrier in varied weather conditions

Physical Requirements

The position requires:

  • Frequent climbing of stairs and ladders (up to 200 ft elevation)
  • Working in confined areas (voids, tanks)
  • Bending, stooping, lifting, pushing/pulling up to 40 lbs
  • Reaching above and below shoulder height
  • Operating equipment such as aircraft elevators, forklifts, man lifts, power tools, and maintenance equipment
