About the role

We are looking for a skilled and certified Safety & Industrial Hygiene Specialist to support safe operations at our nuclear energy facility. This mid-level role is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment through proactive hazard identification, regulatory compliance, industrial hygiene monitoring, and workforce training. The ideal candidate holds both a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation and has experience working in a nuclear or high-hazard energy environment.

What you'll do

On-Site Safety Oversight

  • Conduct regular site inspections and job hazard analyses (JHAs) to identify and mitigate risks
  • Serve as a safety resource for operations, maintenance, and contractor personnel
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices across all site activities

Industrial Hygiene Monitoring

  • Design and implement industrial hygiene sampling programs for chemical, physical, and biological hazards
  • Evaluate worker exposure to noise, radiation, hazardous substances, and other occupational health risks
  • Interpret monitoring data and recommend controls following the hierarchy of controls

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable regulations including NRC, OSHA, and DOE requirements
  • Support regulatory inspections, audits, and reporting obligations
  • Track regulatory changes and assess impact on site programs and procedures

Incident Investigation

  • Lead or support investigations of safety incidents, near-misses, and occupational illness cases
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans
  • Track findings through to resolution and verify effectiveness of corrective actions

Policy Development

  • Develop, review, and update site safety and industrial hygiene programs, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure alignment with industry standards (ANSI, AIHA, NFPA) and company requirements
  • Participate in management of change (MOC) reviews for new processes or equipment

Training & Education

  • Develop and deliver safety and industrial hygiene training for site personnel
  • Maintain training records and ensure compliance with required training frequencies
  • Foster a strong safety culture through ongoing engagement and communication

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) — active certification required
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) — active certification required
  • 3–7 years of experience in a safety or industrial hygiene role, preferably in nuclear or energy
  • Familiarity with NRC, OSHA, and DOE regulatory frameworks

Preferred

  • Experience working in a licensed nuclear facility or advanced reactor environment
  • Knowledge of radiological controls and radiation protection principles
  • Experience with behavior-based safety (BBS) programs
  • Proficiency with safety management software and data analysis tools
