Role Summary: The Yard Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the yard, including the loading and unloading of cargo, inventory, and other goods. As the Yard Supervisor, you will coordinate with other departments to ensure the yard runs smoothly, meet customer expectations, and comply with safety regulations. This is a working supervisory position and requires you to work alongside your employees when needed. To be a successful Yard Supervisor, you must be organized, plan ahead, and be able to prioritize the daily work for the yard. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the yard, including scheduling, organizing, and giving work direction to yard employees
  • Develop and implement yard policies and procedures to ensure safety and compliance with safety and environmental regulations
  • Uphold company brand appearance and organization standards in the yard
  • Manage stock control and inventory checks in partnership with other departments
  • Conduct cycle counts per company guidelines
  • Communicate changes in the order fulfillment process to sales, customer service, and dispatch to ensure efficient workflow and timely delivery of materials
  • Monitor and maintain the condition of equipment in the yard
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with vendors and customers
  • Inspect inbound and outbound stock for quality assurance
  • Provide oversight on equipment maintenance and required documented inspections.
  • Train and ensure Yard Associates are following the standard processes
  • Track and analyze yard performance metrics
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize yard operations
  • Use equipment and machinery to move product around the yard or train new employees on equipment use
  • Manage and resolve customer complaints and inquiries
  • Operate within company policy and submit reports as requested
  • Responsible for safety and health of self and others
  • Maintain punctual and regular attendance per scheduled shifts
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Forklift certification required
  • Heavy equipment experience required
  • Expertise in managing yard operations
  • Knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize workloads
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other related software
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency in English
  • Bi-lingual, Spanish speaking strongly preferred
  • Basic Math skills
  • Familiarity with inventory procedures
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Point of Sale experience is a plus
  • Computer knowledge is a plus
  • Must be 18 years of age

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to routinely lift 25 - 75 lbs. without assistance
  • Regularly operate a Power Industrial Truck or other heavy equipment
  • Standing/walking continuously
  • Frequently required to talk, see and hear
  • Stooping/bending often
  • Frequently required to use hands and feet

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

 

The work environment for this position is primarily outdoors in a yard setting, where exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind, is expected. The yard environment may involve uneven terrain, dust, and noise from machinery. Work may also be performed in the cage or cab of yard equipment, which may have some client control features. Personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety vests, eye protection and gloves, must be worn as required.
