Join Metroparks Toledo as a Seasonal Manor House Assistant. In this role, you help foster a connection with volunteers and the public to the Manor House. You tell the story of the Stranahan family and Wildwood Preserve and their significance to the region’s natural and cultural history. 

Day in the Life?

During the week, you’ll work alongside volunteers to lead historical tours of the property. During the weekend, you will oversee rentals, including event set-up and tear-down. The Manor House is booked consistently for special events, and you’ll be onsite to serve if the need arises.

Job Summary

Advance Metroparks Toledo’s core conservation mission by providing an engaging Manor House tour for visitors and onsite assistance for special events.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Year-Round Programming Staff by leading guided tours and special programs at the Manor House and its grounds. 
  • Work with volunteers to lead guided tours. 
  • Ensure clean, well-maintained areas and public facilities, perform light household maintenance tasks. 
  • Provide appropriate care for historical furnishings and photo exhibits.
  • Assist with special events hosted in the Manor House or its grounds, including table and chair set-up, setting up projection screens and AV equipment, arranging furniture, retrieving supplies from Maintenance Shop, setting up buffet, greeting and directing guests, and clean-up. 
  • Respond to customer questions, comments and suggestions in a courteous and timely way.
  • Other Park District duties as assigned.

  • Historical props
  • Household Equipment: dishwasher, vacuum, washer, dryer
  • Vehicles: golf carts with and without trailers, UTVs

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Length of employment varies based on need. Generally, March – December. Employment will not exceed 1,480 hours in a calendar year.
  • Schedule: 20-35-hour work week. 3-5 days/week. Will require work on the weekends and/or holidays.
  • Wednesday – Friday, Sunday, 10:30am – 5:30pm
  • Saturdays 2 shifts: 9am – 5pm or 9am – 11pm 
  • Home Work Location: Wildwood.
  • Requires frequent lifting and carrying of up to 25 pounds. 
Requirements:

Job Requirements

  1. Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  2. Education: High School Diploma or GED. 4 semesters of college coursework in History, Education, Recreation and Leisure or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience, preferred.
  3. Experience: 1 year experience in customer service, hospitality, or retail. Experience leading tours, preferred. 
  4. Certifications: 
  • External Candidates: Must obtain the following certifications within 1 year of employment and fulfill requalification and recertification requirements:
  • Internal Candidates: Must obtain the following certifications within 1 year of employment and fulfill requalification and recertification requirements. Certifications already achieved, preferred.
  1. CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  2. Certified Interpretive Guide (NAIA)

Alternates to the position requirements may be made as Metroparks finds appropriate and acceptable.

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written policies, procedures and instructions.

Salary Information

$13.00 - $13.00 Hourly Wage
