Department: Laboratory - Chemistry
Location: Unity Hospital
Hours Per Week: Full-Time, 40 Hours/Week
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts, 8a-4p
SUMMARY
The Laboratory Supervisor supervises day-to-day operations including accuracy for patient results, instrumentation, quality and regulatory issues, procedures, and processes as appropriate. The Laboratory Supervisor also oversees Laboratory Medical Technologists and Support Staff as necessary and performs bench work as a Medical Technologist as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages the day-to-day activities of the Laboratory Section
- Technical Supervision: Oversee appropriate scheduling of Department staff and daily operations and workflow. Assure that Department procedures and instruments conform to good laboratory practice. Assure validity of patient test results. Oversee information technology needs specific to the department, including updates and staff training
- Human Resource Management: Work with Department Manager to interview, hire, train, supervise, discipline and terminate Department team member with appropriate documentation. Maintain Department files according to regulatory requirements and review files annually for completeness. Complete annual performance evaluations for Department staff. Foster teamwork and a collegial atmosphere
- Materials Management: Maintain equipment and supplies. Confer with vendors to obtain best pricing, quality, etc, and monitor preventive maintenance on equipment
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all regulatory standards and prepare Department for inspections. Work with Department Manager and Physician Director to develop, monitor and complete appropriate Department QA, QC and QI monitors
- Training and Competency: Provide orientation, training, on-going education and competency assessments specific to Department. Participate in continuing education program for Department staff. Assist with teaching in the Clinical Laboratory Technology Program
- Perform bench work as needed
- Demonstrates commitment to RRH Standards
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as requested by Manager or Director
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS in Medical Technology or BS in a related Science and/or equivalent relevant experience as recognized by New York State Department of Education for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (NYS Dept. of Education, Education Law, article 165, 8605-9/1/06)
- Minimum 4 + years' experience as a Medical Technologist
- Current New York State Department of Education License or Limited Permit as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist
- Successful completion as appropriate of NYS Licensing examination in fulfillment of requirements for the NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license
- Must meet New York State Department of Health CLEP requirements as a Laboratory Supervisor
- Must have a valid NYS driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4+ years of experience in Chemistry
- Previous experience in laboratory leadership position preferred
- Certification by ASCP preferred, but not required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

PAY RANGE: $96,000.00 - $114,000.00
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
