Job Summary

We are seeking a Business Analyst to join our team at Hillsdale College, reporting to the Senior Director of Continuous Improvement Services. The Business Analyst will play a crucial role in evaluating business needs, analyzing problems, and ensuring that the right solutions are implemented to maximize value for the organization and enable the business to achieve their best-in-class goals. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with stakeholders to uncover the root cause of problems, build strong business cases, and drive process and technology improvements. The individual must be able to work absent constant direct oversight and able to work with single or multiple business customers as needed. This is a junior-level position, reflecting 1 to 3 years of relevant experience. Our progression of analyst positions is analogous to the apprentice, journeyman, and master model (Associate, Analyst, and Sr. Analyst). Applicants with greater than 3 years of relevant experience may be considered for a mid-tier Analyst role.

Essential Job Duties

The Business Analyst will be able to support and deliver, under minimal direction, the following key functions necessary to deliver Continuous Improvement goals:

Business Analysis & Problem-Solving

  • Assess incoming projects: Identify whether a proposed solution adequately addresses the business need and its root cause or if alternative approaches should be considered.
  • Perform root cause analysis: When presented with a predetermined solution, work with stakeholders to understand the business context, uncover underlying issues, and evaluate the source of the problem that needs solving.
  • Analyze current state processes and pain points to ensure solutions provide measurable improvement. Leverage data analysis to understand the current business context.
  • Evaluate and recommend solutions: Conduct cost-benefit analyses and prepare business cases outlining possible solutions, associated risks, and expected value.
  • Support decision-making: Present findings and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business goals.

Requirements Gathering & Implementation Support

  • Lead requirements elicitation for technology-related projects, ensuring that business needs are clearly defined and documented.
  • Translate business needs into requirements for IT developers, helping drive collaboration between business and technology teams.
  • Participate in requirement management to ensure that the implemented solution meets functional and business objectives.
  • Assist in testing and user acceptance, ensuring that delivered solutions function as expected.
  • Support implementation efforts by helping stakeholders adopt new processes and systems effectively.
  • Measure the results of solution implementations to ensure the business change meets the desired business goals

Process Improvement & Optimization
  • Identify process inefficiencies and propose data-driven improvements.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows and eliminate waste.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to ensure that solutions align with strategic priorities and contribute to long-term success.



Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 1-5 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the job.



Other Skills:
Required
  • Proven experience in and/or familiarity with building business cases, requirements gathering, and process improvement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform root cause analysis and recommend effective solutions.
  • Experience working with stakeholders across different functions to align business needs.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate business needs into requirements.
  • Knowledge of process mapping and workflow optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with how data drives business.
  • Ability to translate needs between the business and IT.

Preferred

  • Experience in non-profit sectors.
  • Familiarity with business process modeling tools (ADONIS, Visio, Lucidchart, etc.).
  • Experience using data analysis tools (Excel, SQL, Power BI, etc.).
  • Background in working with ERP systems, CRM platforms, or enterprise software implementations.
