Job Purpose:
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of the girls varsity volleyball program
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct daily practices to promote the development and improvement of skills, preparing players for games and competitive play
- Educate student athletes about college, the placement process and support those who have the ability and interest to play in college
- Work closely with the College Counseling office to strategize and assist student-athletes with the college process when students are being recruited; Developing and maintaining professional contacts with collegiate coaches and programs at all levels are instrumental in supporting Pomfret Student Athletes
- Assist Admissions efforts by identifying and attracting qualified student athletes
- Provide leadership, support, and guidance for the entire program, including other sports at all levels
- Select students who are best suited in skill, commitment, and performance for the expected level of play for your team
- Meet with student-athletes throughout the academic year; provide professional development feedback for coaching staff
- Require student athletes to represent the School in a respectful and dignified manner by teaching the importance of sportsmanship and hold them accountable for their behavior and attendance at all practices and games
- Utilize athletics to teach and reinforce the school's mission statement and values
- Create an environment where the enjoyment of the sport is promoted
- Ensure the health and safety of players, coaches, and spectators
- Engage with parents and cultivate a successful relationship
- Promote the school and the sport through articles, media coverage, the athletic website, etc., which includes emailing game summaries to “The Pomfret Sports Digest”, newspapers, and/or league officers within 24 hours after all games
- Communicate noteworthy news and/or accomplishments to the Communications department
- Attend NEPSAC and League coaches meetings for Volleyball
- Seek professional development opportunities through clinics, coaching associations, videos, or other coaches
- Adhere to all School policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Continually meet or exceed Pomfret School’s Standards of Behavior, Character, and Engagement
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Collegiate player or high school coaching experience preferred.
- Must have held a valid US driver's license for at least three years
- Must travel to peer schools on game days (Wednesdays and Saturdays)
- Possess a highly professional and ethical manner
Work Conditions:
- Requires substantial movement of entire body; running, jumping, tossing/throwing
- Visual acuity within normal parameters
