About this position
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fitter / Welder to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and Inconel using GMAW and FCAW processes, as well as carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum using the GTAW process. This role requires at least five years of fitting experience and five years of welding experience in a professional work environment. The successful candidate must be able to read and interpret blueprints, technical schematics, AWS welding symbols, and follow established welding procedures with precision and accuracy.
Requirements:Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, technical schematics, and measurements to plan layouts and fabrication steps.
- Select the appropriate welding equipment, method, and process based on job requirements and material specifications.
- Set up components for fitting and welding, including cutting material using powered equipment to precise measurements.
- Operate angle grinders and other preparation tools to ensure proper fit-up and weld readiness.
- Safely operate an overhead crane at an expert level to maneuver large or heavy components.
- Align and secure components using tape measures, rulers, clamps, and additional tooling as needed.
- Fit and weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in multiple positions, including vertical, horizontal, and overhead.
- Repair or restore machinery and components by welding and filling gaps to achieve required material thickness.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required protective equipment, including face shields and gloves.
- Perform physical tasks such as standing for extended periods, climbing ladders, bending, grasping, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching.
- Use the company’s MRP system to locate drawings, retrieve work instructions, and accurately log labor hours.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Adhere to all safe work practices and company standards.
Experience & Education:
- Minimum of five (5) years professional fitting experience required.
- Minimum of five (5) years professional welding experience required.
- Experience welding carbon steel, stainless steel, Inconel, and aluminum in the GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW processes.
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship or related technical training program preferred.
Required Qualifications:
- Proficiency in using a variety of welding processes and equipment (GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, etc.).
- Skilled in the use of electrical and manual tools, including saws, squares, calipers, and other fabrication instruments.
- Experience operating overhead cranes to lift and maneuver large or heavy components safely.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, weld procedure specifications, and other technical documents.
- Strong math skills necessary for measurements and layout.
- Basic computer literacy and the ability to navigate MRP or similar software systems.
- Thorough knowledge of workplace safety standards and proper tool handling.
- High attention to detail and excellent manual dexterity.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to precise fabrication processes.
- Physical capability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to producing quality work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful completion of a certified welding or fitting apprenticeship program.
- Experience working with large-scale fabrication assemblies or complex weldments.
- Advanced knowledge of material preparation, weld sequencing, and distortion control.
- Interest in continued skills development and cross-training within the organization.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- This position is performed primarily on the fabrication shop floor in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Work may involve exposure to noise, dust, heat, welding fumes, and other typical industrial conditions.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, face shields, gloves, and hearing protection, must be worn at all times.
- The role requires standing for extended periods and performing physical tasks such as climbing ladders, bending, lifting, pulling, pushing, and reaching.
- Regular use of heavy tools, welding equipment, and overhead cranes is required as part of daily job duties.

Work Schedule:
- Status: Full-Time, On-Site – (Location: Oxford, MI)
- Standard Hours: Monday – Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Overtime: Available and may be required based on workload. Occasional Fridays and weekends may be required depending on delivery deadlines and production demands.
