Description:

The Podiatrist provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions affecting the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. This position supports Pinehurst Surgical Clinic’s Orthopaedic Department through a patient-centered approach emphasizing evidence-based care, high clinical quality, and strong collaboration with orthopaedic surgeons and interdisciplinary clinical teams. The Podiatrist will manage a full outpatient clinic schedule and may perform surgical procedures consistent with training, credentialing, and clinic needs. Opportunity for partnership is available after 12–18 months, contingent upon meeting specified criteria.

Requirements:

 Clinical Care (Outpatient)

  • Perform patient evaluations and establish diagnoses for podiatric conditions including foot and ankle disorders, sports-related injuries, arthritis, deformities, tendon disorders, and biomechanical issues.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans including conservative management, medication, injections, physical therapy referrals, bracing, and surgical planning when indicated.
  • Perform in-office podiatric procedures including (as appropriate):
    • Nail procedures (partial/total nail avulsions)
    • Wound care and debridement (if applicable)
    • Injections (corticosteroid, etc.)
    • Orthotics prescription and management
  • Provide patient education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, recovery expectations, and preventative care.

Surgical Care (If Applicable / Privileged)

  • Perform podiatric surgical procedures in ambulatory surgery center and/or hospital settings in alignment with PSC privileges.
  • Participate in pre-operative evaluation and surgical planning including imaging review and coordination with surgical teams.
  • Provide post-operative follow-up care including wound management, recovery guidance, and rehabilitation planning.

Orthopaedic Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate with orthopaedic surgeons, clinical staff, imaging, PT/OT partners, DME team, and other PSC specialists to coordinate care.
  • Provide timely referrals and consultations within the Orthopaedic department and across clinic specialties as indicated.
  • Participate in department meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to patient care and clinic workflows.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Document all encounters accurately, thoroughly, and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure compliance with clinic policies, state and federal regulations, coding/billing requirements, and quality standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and maintain required clinical competencies, licensure, certifications, and CME requirements.

  • Arthritis and degenerative conditions
  • Sports injuries of the lower extremity
  • Neuromas
  • Fractures and sprains
  • Diabetic foot complications (as applicable to role/scope)

  

Qualifications

Education

  • Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from an accredited institution required.
  • 3-year Surgical Residency

Licensure / Certification

  • Active (or eligible) North Carolina license as a Podiatrist required.
  • Board Qualified or Board Certified preferred (ABPM and/or ABFAS).
  • DEA registration required (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • BLS certification required (ACLS preferred depending on surgical privileges).

Experience

  • Prior clinical experience is preferred; new graduates will be considered depending on residency training and fit with clinic model.
  • Strong experience in outpatient podiatric care required.
  • Surgical experience is strongly preferred if the role includes operative privileges.

  • Excellent bedside manner with ability to build trust and rapport with patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, and patients.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, patient safety, and evidence-based medicine.
  • Proficient computer skills with ability to document efficiently in an EMR.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage a full-time clinical schedule.
