Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) – PRN

Position Summary


The LVN provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role supports patient assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation while collaborating with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


Patient Care & Clinical Support

  • Provide age-appropriate nursing care to all patient populations.
  • Administer medications and IV therapy (if certified) in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and perform technical nursing skills within LVN scope of practice.
  • Monitor patient conditions, identify changes, and report concerns to the supervising RN or charge nurse.
  • Educate patients and families on treatments, medications, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain infection prevention, sterile technique, and patient safety standards.
     

Teamwork, Productivity & Safety

  • Prioritize and manage workload effectively while assisting team members as needed.
  • Respond promptly to patient needs and maintain awareness of unit activity.
  • Ensure safe patient environments and participate in emergency and disaster response procedures.
  • Report safety concerns, incidents, or equipment issues promptly.
  • Use supplies and equipment appropriately, minimizing waste.
     

Professional Conduct & Development

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and professional appearance.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Seek opportunities for professional growth and maintain required certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational operations.
Requirements:

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Graduate of an accredited vocational nursing program.
  • Current Texas LVN license.
  • Current BLS certification required.

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of one year of general nursing experience preferred.
  • Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic health records (EHR).
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.  

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, and pull for extended periods.
  • May require lifting or assisting patients and equipment.
  • Exposure to clinical environments, including infectious materials, with appropriate safety precautions.
