Job Description: District Manager
Position Summary
The District Manager is a strategic business leader responsible for driving financial performance,
operational excellence, talent development, and guest experience across multiple restaurant locations
within California and/or Arizona. This role provides leadership and direction to General Managers,
ensuring alignment with Rubio’s brand standards and compliance with all applicable state and federal
laws. The District Manager exercises independent judgment and discretion in staffing, performance
management, financial oversight, and execution of company initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities
• Financial & Business Performance: Owns district-level P&L; performance, ensuring restaurants
meet or exceed sales, labor, food cost, and controllable expense targets. Implements corrective
action plans as needed.
• Leadership & Talent Development: Directly supervises, coaches, and evaluates General
Managers. Leads hiring, promotion, succession planning, corrective action, and termination
decisions.
• Operational & Legal Compliance: Ensures compliance with California and Arizona wage and
hour laws, including meal and rest period requirements (CA), overtime regulations, final pay
requirements, paid sick leave laws, and required workplace postings. Ensures required harassment
prevention training compliance (including CA supervisory training mandates).
• Guest Experience & Brand Protection: Champions Rubio’s hospitality standards and ensures
consistent execution of brand and food safety expectations.
• Strategic Partnership: Collaborates with Restaurant Support Center departments to implement
company initiatives and ensure regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Minimum 3–5 years of multi-unit restaurant management experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in P&L; management and labor cost control.
• Strong working knowledge of California and Arizona employment laws.
• Ability to travel frequently within assigned district; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
required.
Classification & Compensation
This position is classified as Exempt under applicable federal and state wage and hour laws. The role
satisfies executive exemption criteria, including primary duty of management, customary supervision of
two or more full-time employees, and meaningful input into personnel decisions. Compensation willmeet or exceed applicable California or Arizona exempt salary thresholds.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This position requires frequent travel between restaurant locations. Work is performed in both office
and restaurant environments. The role may require standing, walking, lifting up to 25 pounds, and
exposure to heat, noise, and food preparation areas. Reasonable accommodations will be provided in
