SUMMARY: The Dental Hygienist is responsible for the preventative aspect of the dental department regarding educational, clinical and follow-up activities.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties are subject to accommodation in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Reviews and updates medical and dental history during periodic visits.
- Conducts and documents blood pressures on all patients as needed.
- Performs all preventative activities according to the State’s Dental Practice Act. (i.e., dental prophylaxis, topical fluorides, and sealants to appropriate patients.)
- Take necessary radiographs as directed.
- Provides patient education to increase awareness regarding nutrition and home maintenance.
- Controls the inventory of patient educational materials and audits and orders hygiene supplies.
- Maintains and evaluates an active recall system.
- Confirms hygiene appointments for the following day as time permits.
- Backs up the Dental Assistant and Receptionist when time permits.
- Performs Triage Emergencies, Dosimetry Maintenance and other duties as assigned by the Dental Operations Director.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Connecticut State Registered Dental Hygienist license required.
- Two years’ experience; bilingual preferred.
- CPR/BLS Certified
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Education and/or Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of dental hygiene.
