Hours: Monday-Friday: 8:00 am – 3:30 pm + Some Evenings and Weekends

Salary range: $18.00 – $24.00/hour based on job duties and experience.

BASIC FUNCTIONS: Perform duties under the direct supervision of the Art Program Manager. Work directly with adults with developmental disabilities by providing daily training and instruction in assigned curriculum. Instruct program participants in various mediums (such as painting, drawing, sculpture, sewing, printmaking, crafts, mosaics, jewelry, and digital art) by performing the duties identified below. Instruct in-person studio classes and virtually though various alternative services and essential direct care services to the individual.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consult with Art Program Manager to develop curriculum based on identified art medium, individual program objectives including identifying resource materials as well as specific supplies to support identified medium.
  • Observe, instruct, support, and evaluate participants’ work to promote program participant’s continued development, congruent with Person-Centered Planning goals and St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center mission statement.
  • With support from Art Program Manager, identify and accompany/drive program participants on relevant field trips to museums or art galleries or other art-based community integration.
  • Document artwork, upload photographs of work to database/artist’s portfolios.
  • Assist in development of art shows in the community, including preparation for exhibits. Prepare gallery space and work art show/events as needed.
  • Responsible for all other duties as assigned by the Art Program Manager to ensure the safe and efficient daily operation of the program including working overtime when needed.
  • Expected to work at any or all SMSC sponsored art exhibits/shows outside normal program hours. These shows can be evenings and/or weekends.
  • Perform customer service duties in retail gallery, including sales and accurately describing program to visitors/customers
  • Monitor & report any concerns related to health and safety to Art Program Manager or designee, including any documented or suspected unlawful discrimination, adult abuse, or harassment.
  • Able to establish appropriate communication levels with both program participants and co-workers using People First language.
  • Perform essential direct care services to the individual on a daily basis.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, typing and proof-reading skills
  • Knowledge of office management systems/procedures and demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite or related software
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of Title 17 and Title 22.
  • Able to speak a second language, is definite plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:

Individuals will frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. Occasionally you may have to lift-up to 50 lbs. for purposes of setting up activities or gathering materials for projects. Occasionally there may be situations that require high stamina and walk distances up to half a mile in length. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Standard gallery/classroom environment including various equipment including art materials and tools, phone, computer, copier, etc. Significant virtual and online work environment. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in direct training of developmentally disabled adults.
  • May be qualified with no experience in some cases (with proper references and additional trainings offered by SMSC).
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in art Related Field or equivalent experience
  • Competence in computer skills, specifically iPads, video recording and editing, and Zoom
  • Knowledge of behavior modification techniques
  • Ability to develop program curriculum and keep simple records
  • Must be able to conform to applicable laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to Title 17 and Title 22 of the State of California
  • Ability to work with individuals with developmental disabilities, care providers, parents, social workers, and other community agencies
  • Able to communicate effectively – orally and in written form
  • Ability to deal with constant change in a fast-paced setting
  • First Aid and CPR required for the position
  • Covid -19 Vaccinations and boosters required

Salary Information

$18.0 - $24.0 Hourly Wage
