Perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of the  physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. Administrative duties may include scheduling  appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding. Clinical duties may include taking and  recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and  administering medications as directed by provider 


 Functions of the Position (not an exhaustive list):

  • Escort patients to examine rooms and prepare them for the provider
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and vital signs
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of pertinent records reflecting patient’s condition, medication and  treatment, and other records required by state and federal agencies
  • Obtain and prepare a variety of specimens for laboratory analysis: schedules and administers,  ordered laboratory tests, recognizes critical results and calls these results to providers’  attention
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies, medications, and vaccines. Ensure that examination  and/or consultation rooms are properly equipped, supplied, and cleaned
  • Coordinate referrals as instructed by physician to local and regional providers of medical, social  and/or other specialized services
  • Obtain insurance pre-authorizations for medications as specified by the providers
  • Assist physician/ physician assistant or nurse practitioner in exam rooms. Perform and document routine treatments and procedures including but not limited to:  irrigation, suture removals, wound care, phone medication refills to pharmacy, nebulizer  treatments, lab test, and obtain specimens under the direction of the provider 
Requirements:

Education: 

  • High school graduate or equivalent  
  • Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program (preferred) or documentation of training/work experience equivalent to training of a Medical Assistant accredited program 
  • Must be certified or registered within six (6) months of hire 
  • Current BLS certification
