Job Description 

We’re looking for dedicated Spiritual Counselors who are passionate about guiding patients and families through times of illness, loss, and grief. In this role, you will provide compassionate spiritual support to hospice patients, their families, and caregivers, while fostering coping skills for challenges related to terminal illness and bereavement. 

You will serve as an active member of the interdisciplinary care team, plan and lead community support group sessions, and provide both spiritual and bereavement counseling services. This role is deeply rooted in empathy, respect for diverse beliefs, and collaboration with community clergy. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide spiritual guidance and counseling to hospice patients, families, and caregivers. 

  • Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and contribute to holistic patient care. 

  • Deliver bereavement counseling services as part of hospice programming. 

  • Plan, implement, and facilitate community support group sessions. 

  • Coordinate with local clergy and spiritual leaders to ensure comprehensive spiritual support. 

  • Respect and honor the diverse cultural, spiritual, and lifestyle values of patients and families. 

 

Collaborative Teamwork 

This role involves working closely with an interdisciplinary hospice team to deliver patient- and family-centered care. The counselor partners with colleagues across disciplines to ensure compassionate, whole-person support throughout the hospice and bereavement journey. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Graduate of an accredited seminary or school of theology (B.D., M.Div., or equivalent preferred). 

  • Certification in hospital or pastoral ministry preferred. 

  • Experience working with patients and families facing terminal illness, loss, or grief. 

  • Hospice/home visit experience preferred. 

  • Comfortable working in an interfaith setting. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a care team. 

  • Demonstrated ability to respect and support diverse lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values. 

  • Ability to network with community clergy and congregations. 

  • Knowledge of and commitment to hospice philosophy of care.
