JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Project Management (DPM) provides strategic and operational leadership for all project management activities, with a primary focus on driving commercial success, protecting revenue, managing contracts efficiently, and ensuring disciplined customer and contractor interfaces. This role carries full accountability for disciplined contract execution, revenue protection, margin performance, and risk mitigation from order handoff through warranty closeout. It demands strong commercial acumen, collaborative stakeholder engagement, and a results-oriented approach to execute projects that meet financial targets, minimize risks (including claims and legal exposure), and uphold HUBER’s premium market positioning. The DPM is a strategic, analytical leader with strong negotiation capability and executive presence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following represents a list of primary duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned:
- Direct and manage project planning and execution during the installation/start-up phases of the project, providing customer support to end of warranty
- Monitor revenue and gross margins as executed versus as-sold, ensuring alignment with HUBER’s annual business plan and taking proactive corrective actions to safeguard profitability and reduce risks
- Champion disciplined contract management, including negotiation support, change order processes, claims avoidance/mitigation, and resolution of disputes to minimize legal exposure and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and implement strategies to streamline submittal, approval, and execution processes, enhance commercial outcomes, and ensure timely, on-budget delivery of high-quality products
- Foster collaborative relationships across internal and external partners to improve order handover, project execution, and overall process efficiency
- Plan, control, and manage the Project Management department’s budget with a commercial focus on cost control and value optimization
- Distribute incoming orders, workloads, and resources among Project Managers and support staff to meet customer requirements and commercial priorities
- Provide strong leadership to the Project Management department through planning, organizing, directing, and supervising activities to achieve departmental and company goals, including performance management, employee relations, and fostering a collaborative, commercially aware team culture
- Develop, implement, and refine procedures and strategies to improve departmental efficiency, documentation, and controls including but not limited to maintenance of project notes, calculations, and test reports for future reference
- Generate accurate revenue forecasts on a rolling monthly, quarterly, and annual basis; report quarterly revenue targets reflecting realistic timing and amounts
- Monitor, analyze, and report major variances between estimated and actual project gross margins, driving corrective actions and commercial recovery plans as needed
- Own final project gross margin outcomes and drive commercial recovery strategies when performance deviates from plan
- Lead resolution of performance or warranty issues in close cooperation with sales, service, and other stakeholders, applying disciplined judgment; escalate exceptional cases to the President for approval
- Establish and monitor KPIs for project performance including gross margin, cash flow, schedule adherence, claims exposure, and customer satisfaction
- Provide monthly executive reporting to the President on project portfolio health, risk exposure, backlog quality, and revenue forecast accuracy
- Act as the commercial escalation authority for high-risk contract matters, coordinating with contracts administration, legal counsel and executive leadership as required

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for all employees within the project management team, including:
- Performance management and development planning
- Commercial competency development and contract training
- Workforce planning and staffing strategy
- Employee relations and engagement
- Timekeeping and policy compliance
- Develop succession planning and talent pipeline within the Project Management function
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting, however, there may be exposure to warehouse/shop elements. Potential for exposure to undesirable field elements at treatment plants or contractor’s site if a project requires a visit.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a Full-Time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday – Friday, 8-5 or an approved flex schedule related to the needs of the role.
TRAVEL
Some travel to fulfill the duties of the role. Examples: issues requiring visit to customer site or training. May require training to headquarters in Germany. Tradeshow attendance is required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS.
- Bachelor’s Degree in technical or engineering discipline required. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, or other related engineering major preferred
- 10+ years of progressive project management experience in construction, engineering services, or with an equipment manufacturer, including commercial and contract management responsibilities
- 5+ years leading multi-million-dollar complex wastewater or industrial infrastructure projects
- Proven successful experience in a technical management position with a manufacturer, preferably of large capital equipment
- Demonstrated commercial acumen, including expertise in contract negotiation/execution, change management, claims/risk mitigation, revenue/margin protection, and stakeholder relationship management
- Strong track record of collaborative leadership, with the ability to build positive relationships, reduce friction, and protect premium market positioning while achieving financial objectives
- Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and presentation skills
- Results-oriented with a disciplined, positive approach to commercial and contractual matters
- Working knowledge of wastewater and biosolids treatment preferred
