Job Summary

The Shop Technician / Shop Hand supports daily operations in a welding and fabrication shop. This entry-level role is ideal for someone looking to build hands-on experience in metal fabrication, welding support, and general shop operations. The position focuses on assisting skilled welders and fabricators, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and learning shop processes and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist welders and fabricators with setup, material handling, and job preparation
• Load, unload, and organize raw materials and finished parts
• Grind, deburr, clean, and prep metal components for welding or finishing
• Operate basic shop tools and equipment (band saws, grinders, drills, etc.) under supervision
• Perform basic measurements using tape measures, calipers, and squares
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop, tools, and work areas
• Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE
• Help with basic maintenance of shop equipment and tools
• Perform other general shop duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Interest in welding, fabrication, or skilled trades
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
• Willingness to learn new skills and take direction
• Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand tools
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic

Preferred (But Not Required)

• Previous shop, construction, or hands-on work experience
• Basic knowledge of welding or metalworking processes
• Forklift certification or willingness to obtain

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for long periods and work in a shop environment
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Comfortable working around machinery, noise, heat, and metal materials
