About this position
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.0001pt">Performs responsible supervisory and lead worker work of a technical nature in the scheduling, direction and control of automotive, and heavy construction equipment mechanics, including purchasing and maintaining tools and parts inventories.</p><br><p style="margin: 0 0 0.0001pt"><strong>Supervision Received</strong></p><p style="margin: 0 0 0.0001pt; text-align: justify">Works under the general supervision of the <span style="color: inherit">Operations Manager</span> who assigns work projects and is available for technical advice when problems are encountered. Receives instructions as to work to be done, assigned crew, and work priorities. <span style="color: inherit">Work is reviewed in progress and upon completion for conformance with instruction and acceptable trade practices.</span></p><br><p style="margin: 0 0 0.0001pt; text-align: justify"><strong>Supervision Exercised</strong></p><p style="margin: 0 0 0.0001pt; text-align: justify">Provides direct and close supervision of mechanics. Assigns work, instructs mechanics on specific requirements of job procedures to be followed, provides and arranges technical training, reviews work in progress and on completion for conformance with acceptable trade practices. <span style="color: inherit">Drafts performance evaluations of subordinates for review by supervisor(s). </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.0001pt">(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all duties, which may be found in positions of this class.)</p><br><ol style="margin-left: 17px; margin-bottom: 3pt"><li><span style="color: inherit">Develops, plans and coordinates the weekly shop workload based on available work hours, required work hours for repairs, parts availability; prioritizes work keeping in mind forecasted weather conditions, seasonal equipment, upcoming projects, incidents and emergencies;</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Supervises mechanics; Monitors mechanic’s work for quality control and efficiency and assists Operations Manager with dispute resolution, morale, motivation/attitude, recruitment and retention, training, overtime, leave, and safety;</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Determines the cost effectiveness of repairs to equipment and monitors the budget;</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Performs repairs and maintenance as needed;</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Orders parts and supplies, maintains parts and supply inventory, and conducts annual physical inventory reconciliation utilizing computer-based part inventory system and maintains shop filing system and records through the use of an asset management program;</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Reviews and approves reports, work orders, leave requests, time sheets, fuel system inspection logs, supply orders, etc. completed by mechanics. Runs various reports (inspections, material tracking, etc.) from data entered into the system;</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Oversees implementation of preventative maintenance program for vehicles and equipment to assure guidelines are followed and that the fleet is in compliance with Federal and State regulations and statues;</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Reviews vehicle and equipment replacement plan and suggest items for replacement, utilizing understanding of asset management and equipment preservation techniques;</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Manages custom fabrication projects and schedules outside vendors for vehicle and equipment repairs as needed; </span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Coaches, mentors, trains, and guides others on planning and performance of maintenance activities, including technical aspects of equipment maintenance management;</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Leads and attends safety training and perform safety talks; Maintains current knowledge of, abides by, communicates, and enforces all safety laws, regulations, policies, and procedures and wears all required personal protective equipment;</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Keeps up with industry standards and changes for job-related equipment, tools, materials, processes, procedures, and technology, and trains others as needed;</span></li><li><span style="color: inherit">Ensures that Town policies and procedures are being followed in all areas;</span></li><li>As directed, supervises snow removal, ice control and emergency response operations. Must be available for emergency work such as snow removal, ice control and emergency operations;</li></ol><p style="margin: 0 0 0.0001pt; text-align: justify"><br></p><p style="margin: 0 0 0.0001pt; text-align: justify">Performs other related duties as required.</p><br><br>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.0001pt; text-align: justify">Knowledge of standard shop practices, methods, tools and machines of the various skilled mechanical trades; knowledge of gas and diesel automotive and specialized equipment; mechanical operation and hydraulics systems; knowledge of warehousing and stock control procedures; ability to prepare and maintain basic computer-based information records and asset management systems; ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of skilled and semi-skilled mechanics and to advise them on technical and mechanical difficulties.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.0001pt; text-align: justify">Graduation from high school or technical school with training in automotive mechanics or other mechanical training, (Associates Degree in field preferred) plus at least four years progressively responsible experience in mechanical maintenance work, two of which have been in a lead worker capacity; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have a valid State of New Hampshire CDL-B (CDL-A preferred) with air brake and tank endorsement.</p>
