Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) – PT/PRN | Birmingham, AL | Crisis Services
About the Role:
Ally Psychiatry is seeking a part-time / PRN Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide vacation and coverage support at a 24-hour crisis stabilization center in Birmingham, AL. This is an as-needed role offering flexible scheduling and the opportunity to work with a dedicated multidisciplinary team serving individuals in acute psychiatric crisis.
Position Highlights:
- Shift options: 12-hour shifts — 6:30 AM–6:30 PM and 6:30 PM–6:30 AM - PRN coverage must be open to covering both.
- Schedule: As needed for vacation and coverage support
- Setting: 24-hour crisis stabilization center
- Employment type: W-2 or 1099 available
- Collaborative environment with physician support and a strong nursing and social work team
Responsibilities:
- Perform psychiatric evaluations and manage treatment for patients in crisis
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care
- Document encounters and follow clinical protocols

Qualifications:
- Licensed PMHNP in the State of Alabama
- Active DEA registration (or eligibility) - nice but not required.
- Prior experience in crisis, inpatient, or acute care psychiatry preferred
- Flexible and reliable with excellent communication skills
Prior experience in providing mental health counseling services within a clinical setting
- Must possess the knowledge base in health promotion maintenance, advanced pathophysiology, advanced health assessment and pharmacology for advanced practice nurses.
- Must possess the following concepts: individual and family psychotherapy, psychiatric-mental health nursing across the lifespan, advanced assessment in psychiatric-mental health nursing and psychopharmacology.
