Medical Laboratory Technician

About the role
We are looking for an employee with experience working in a Clinical Laboratory. Knowledge of clinical laboratory processes and procedures required. This candidate will be expected to perform quality control testing, calibrations, and maintenance of laboratory analyzers. This candidate will be responsible for testing patient samples, reporting results and keeping appropriate documentation. Candidates with a knowledge of quality assurance measures are preferred. Candidates who possess strong detail oriented and interpersonal skills will excel in this position.
Supervision Received: Reports to Director of Operations, Laboratory Manager
Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent walking, sitting, bending, and standing required for extended periods of time. Lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires visual acuity and normal color perception.
Typical Working Conditions: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Adhere to quality assurance policies, corrective action policies and preventive maintenance policies for procedures described above. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications. Immediately notify technical supervisor when identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance if problem cannot be corrected. Perform equipment maintenance, calibration, and quality control. Maintain log sheets for equipment maintenance. Print and review Levey- Jennings graphs and quality control results from the LIS or analyzer
Perform paperwork necessary for departmental requirements. Prepare blood and urine specimens to be sent out to reference labs. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion. Attend safety classes and other continuing education classes as offered by Physicians East. Perform continuing education yearly as required by Physicians East.
Maintain proficiency in using the LIS and EMR as required by Physicians East.
