SALARY RANGE: $85,200 - $96,900
LOCATION
This role is based in Southern California, specifically in Oceanside, CA (North San Diego County). It is located inside a military base installation. Base access is provided to civilian employees.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Sr. Director of Development, the Major Gifts Officer will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of ASYMCA Camp Pendleton’s fundraising initiatives. As part of a collaborative development team, this individual will lead efforts to identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with major donors, while designing strategic approaches to maximize philanthropic support for essential programs. Responsible for managing a diverse portfolio, preparing compelling proposals, and ensuring donors receive meaningful engagement and recognition, all while maintaining accurate records and tracking progress toward ambitious revenue goals. This role also includes managing a portfolio of major donors shared across ASYMCA branches and must work seamlessly within a regional structure, motivate cross-functional teams, and champion a culture of collaboration that maximizes both donor satisfaction and regional revenue growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: Develop and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations. Build strong, lasting relationships through personalized engagement, stewardship activities, and strategic communications.
- Fundraising Strategy: Collaborate with the Sr. Director of Development and other team members to design and implement strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts ($1,000+).
- Regional Collaboration and Shared Portfolio Strategy: Strategically manage and advance a portfolio of major donors, including shared prospects across ASYMCA branches, partnering regionally to align engagement strategies, ensure seamless donor experiences, and maximize collective philanthropic impact.
- Solicitation of Gifts: Prepare compelling proposals, presentations, and correspondence to solicit major gifts for ASYMCA programs, capital campaigns, and special initiatives.
- Donor Recognition: Coordinate appropriate recognition and acknowledgment of major donors, ensuring personalized attention and meaningful engagement.
- Event Participation: Participate in and help organize donor engagement events, program tours, and other activities designed to deepen donor involvement and showcase ASYMCA’s impact.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate records of donor interactions, gifts, and donor prospect information using ASYMCA’s donor database.
- Reporting: Track and report on fundraising progress, donor activity, and revenue goals to the development team and leadership on a monthly basis.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or related field AND a minimum of 5 years’ experience in major gift fundraising or similar nonprofit development role OR equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Demonstrated success in securing major gifts and managing donor relationships required.
- Demonstrated success in navigating matrixed environments, with the ability to influence without authority, build cross-cultural internal partnerships, and coordinate shared donor strategies with diplomacy and accountability.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.
- Knowledge of military communities and commitment to the ASYMCA mission is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with donor management software and Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Able to travel, as required.
- Able to successfully pass a background check.

- Able to perform sedentary work including working at a workstation and performing repetitive keyboarding activities.
- Occasionally lifts, carries, and balances objects weighing up to 40 pounds
- Pulls and pushes such objects as file drawers and supplies.
- Prioritizes and multi-tasks work and projects requiring good memory, concentration, and analytical thinking
- Able to operate general office equipment. Visual and hearing acuity is necessary to operate equipment, use telecommunication, read fine print, and utilize a computer monitor throughout a normal workday.
- Must be able to hear, and see including peripheral vision and distinction of colors, read and communicate verbally and in writing frequently with a wide range of individuals from divergent socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and origins.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
