About this position

Cadets at Offshore Aviation OAG are expected to seek opportunities for growth and development while onboard actively and to take a proactive approach to daily operations and safety practices.

The Deck Cadet will learn and perform the duties and responsibilities of a Deck Officer in a safe, professional, and efficient manner, in full compliance with company policies, maritime regulations, and all applicable international and flag-state requirements.

Under the supervision of a licensed Deck Officer, the Deck Cadet will focus on:

  • Safety awareness and safe working practices in the offshore marine environment

  • Watchkeeping duties and navigational routines

  • Seamanship skills and vessel operations

  • Cargo handling and offshore support operations

  • Bridge procedures and navigational equipment familiarization

The Cadet will stand navigational and cargo watches to gain practical experience in watch requirements and operational routines. Participation in mooring operations and other deck operations will be required as directed by the Chief Mate or designated officer.

Additionally, the Deck Cadet will perform maintenance tasks as assigned by the department head and will gain exposure to administrative functions, documentation procedures, and the organizational structure of the deck department and the vessel as a whole.

The objective of the program is to develop competent, safety-focused maritime professionals who meet U.S. Coast Guard licensing requirements and are prepared to advance toward certification as Third Mate – Unlimited Tonnage.
