Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is an active member of a team providing supported services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities following the framework outlined in organizational policies and procedures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized, direct care support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to maintain independent living while monitoring health and safety.
- Advocate for and promote individual choice and involvement for individuals served.
- Communicate with others in a prompt and professional manner.
- Attend training and professional development sessions as requested.
- Assist with individuals’ transportation and appointments.
- Administer medication and first aid.
- Complete required service documentation.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn organizational technology and software systems.
- Ensure the confidentiality of individuals served, employees, and organizational information.
- Able to work cooperatively with a diverse group of people.
- Respond to stressful situations in a calm and professional manner, reflecting a positive image of the organization in the community.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule.
- Demonstrate a positive, solution-oriented approach.
- Adhere to established safety protocols.
- Meet organizational insurability standards and have a valid Iowa driver’s license.
- Willingness and ability to accept, consider, and respond to feedback.
Education/Experience:
- High school graduate or GED.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds with or without assistance.
- Must be able to access all areas of assigned work locations.
Salary Information
$16.30 - $18.55
