About this position
To provide dental hygiene coverage during the operation of the dental clinic. <strong> </strong>
<strong><u>Primary Duties in Dental Clinic: </u></strong><br>1. Reviews medical history forms of patients in the clinic. If a medical history is questionable, the part-time clinical lab hygienist will consult with the clinic dentist who will determine if the patient should receive care in the dental hygiene clinic. <br>2. Reviews and evaluates x-rays taken of patients in the clinic.<br>3. Reviews and evaluates students with patients by observing and instructing students<br>in regard to history taking, scaling, polishing, charting, and probing as well as all clinical services provided by the clinic.<br>4. Answers all questions of instructors and students in regard to patient problems in the clinic.<br>5. Executes emergency care procedures, when necessary.<br>6. Serves as a consultant to students and faculty in the clinic.<br>7. Makes comments and suggestions to the Program Director and the Clinical Coordinator concerning procedures.<br>8. Utilizes standardized grading methods and clinic evaluation procedures.<br>9. Enhances the attitude and professionalism of the student by wearing appropriate<br>attire and following proper clinical protocol as outlined in the Dental Hygiene Policies Handbook.<br>10. Attends department staff meetings when requested.<br>11. Assists with maintenance of the Dental Hygiene clinic and equipment.<br>12. Assists clinical coordinator with grade calculation for clinical courses. <br><strong> </strong><br><strong> </strong><strong><u>Referral of Patients</u></strong><br>1. Patients of record who need follow-up care will be referred to the patient’s dentist of record. Solicitation of patients who have documented dentists of record will be construed as unprofessional and grounds for dismissal.<br>2. In the event the clinic patient of record does not have a documented dentist of record, the patient will be advised to check the telephone directory.<br>3. Direct solicitation of patients for part-time clinic staff will not be allowed.
<ul><li>Required to hold a dental hygiene license to practice in the State of Maryland. <li>Must be CPR certified. <li>Recognition to administer Local Anesthesia is required or will be obtained immediately upon hire.</ul>
