About this position
Overview
The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the monthly close process, financial reporting, tax compliance, and day‑to‑day accounting operations for a fast‑paced wholesale/distribution environment. This position ensures accurate financial records, strengthens internal controls, and contributes to continuous process improvement across the accounting function. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting knowledge, hands‑on tax experience, and the ability to thrive in a high‑volume inventory and transactional environment.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and support schedules.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain and reconcile G/L accounts including cash, inventory, AP, AR, accruals, and intercompany.
- Analyze financial results and variance explanations for management reporting.
- Support the Controller in preparing internal financial statements and reports.
Tax & Compliance
- Prepare federal, state, and local tax filings including sales/use tax, franchise tax, property tax, and other compliance requirements.
- Assist external tax advisors with income tax provision preparation and filings.
- Maintain documentation for audits and respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies.
- Monitor changes in tax regulations relevant to wholesale/distribution operations.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Support
- Review AP and AR transactions for accuracy and proper coding.
- Assist in credit memo reviews, customer reconciliations, and vendor account issues.
- Help ensure timely payments and collections consistent with company policies.
Process Improvement & Controls
- Recommend and implement process enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Participate in system upgrades, automation initiatives, and workflow improvements.
- Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with company accounting policies.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CPA‑track preferred).
- 4–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in wholesale, distribution, or manufacturing.
- Experience with multi‑state taxation, sales/use tax, and corporate tax filings.
- Strong understanding of GAAP.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in ERP/accounting systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis).
- Familiarity with inventory costing and transactional accounting.

Compensation Range: $85,000.00- $100,000.00 base salary per year contingent upon experience + bonus potential.
