The Lynchburg Humane Society (LHS) is seeking a compassionate, skilled Veterinarian to join our mission-driven team. This position offers a unique opportunity to practice high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter surgery, shelter medicine, and/or wellness and sick-pet care for owned pets in our community. Veterinarians may focus on one area of practice or enjoy a combination, based on interest and experience.
About the Role
As an LHS Veterinarian, you will play a critical role in improving animal welfare and access to veterinary care in our region. Our collaborative, supportive environment allows veterinarians to practice excellent medicine while making a tangible impact every day.
Opportunities May Include:
- High-volume, high-quality spay/neuter surgery in a well-equipped clinic
- Shelter medicine for animals in LHS care, including preventive care, diagnostics, and treatment of illness or injury
- Wellness and sick-pet services for owned pets, increasing access to care for our community
- Participation in population health, disease prevention, and humane initiatives
- Flexible scheduling options, including part-time, full-time, or customized schedules
- Working closely with a dedicated team of technicians, assistants, and animal care staff
Veterinarians may choose to work exclusively in spay/neuter, shelter medicine, owned-pet services, or a customized combination.
Qualifications:
- DVM from an accredited veterinary school
- Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice in Virginia
- Interest in spay/neuter, shelter medicine, community medicine, or a combination
- Strong surgical, medical, and/or diagnostic skills (training and mentorship available)
- Commitment to animal welfare and teamwork
