About Us

School of Rock is the largest after-school music education provider in the world, with more than 400 locations globally. We teach drums, guitar, bass, keys, and vocals through a performance-based curriculum that builds confidence, musicianship, and community.

At School of Rock Princeton in Lawrence Township, NJ, students take private lessons, rehearse in bands, and perform live shows throughout the year. We put on shows to teach music.

We are seeking a driven, organized, and people-focused General Manager to lead daily operations and support continued growth at our school.

This is an exempt, salaried leadership position with performance-based bonus potential.

Position Overview

The General Manager is responsible for leading daily operations, managing staff, driving enrollment growth, and delivering an exceptional experience for students and families.

This role oversees instructors across all instruments and programs, including drums, guitar, bass, keys/piano, vocals, Rock 101, performance programs, camps, and shows.

The GM partners closely with ownership and the Music Director to maintain instructional quality, strong program mix, financial discipline, and sustainable growth.

Roles & Responsibilities

Provide an exceptional experience for students and families, driving engagement, retention, and enrollment growth.

Deliver top-quality customer service, including oversight of billing accuracy, schedule management, and clear, timely communication.

Build relationships within the local community to increase visibility and create performance opportunities.

Recruit, hire, onboard, and train staff members to ensure success and alignment with school goals.

Promote Diversity and Inclusion to foster a welcoming and respectful environment.

Deliver results through management of educational and business Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Oversee marketing, sales, and promotional initiatives.

Manage the school’s financial performance, including analyzing data, controlling labor costs, and monitoring expenses.

Oversee show production, tours, and performance opportunities.

Ensure a safe, compliant, and positive learning environment.

Conduct performance evaluations and make training, disciplinary, and termination decisions in accordance with company policy.

Travel to venues and events as required.

Represent School of Rock professionally and coordinate logistics for guest artists when necessary.

Base salary starting range: $43,500 – $48,000, depending on experience, plus performance-based bonus potential.

Physical & Work Requirements

Ability to occasionally move equipment weighing up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to remain in a stationary position, standing or sitting, for extended periods.

Ability to work in an amplified music environment while following sound safety protocols.

Regular communication with students, families, staff, and community partners.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Skill Requirements

3+ years of work experience in management, sales, marketing, or a customer service-related role

Experience reviewing and managing a P&L or budget

Excellent customer service skills

Strong experience recruiting and managing staff

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proven problem-solving skills

Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse populations

Strong work ethic, integrity, and leadership skills

Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

Experience and interest in working with children

Passion and/or interest in music and the arts

Entrepreneurial spirit and drive to grow a small business
